Holidays & Vacation

Sometimes I don't know if I'm the dumb one or smart one.

I tend to take my vacation throughout the year. A little bit here. A little bit there. By the time the end of the year comes, I've used it or planned it. And because I do that, I'm at work during the holiday season when a lot of employees seem to take vacation to make the holidays (or their vacation) last longer. Or because if they don't they'll lose their vacation.

Use it or lose it? Don't be ridiculous! I don't have enough.

Even before writing became all consuming (and gobbled up my vacation time – conventions anyone?), I used my time off to play golf or go to the amusement park. Things done in the warmer months. Fun things! I don't consider taking vacation during the holidays so I can do shopping (or clean the house, or prepare for a meal) a vacation. But then, maybe that's just me.

So, am I smart for not taking vacation this time of year? The work place is definitely quiet (I think half the employees are gone). The work load is light and so is the traffic (at least it was this morning). And sometimes the boss lets you leave early because there just isn't any work. Or should I have hooked some vacation to the holidays and make them last longer?

If I don't get around to writing a blog tonight (as I didn't yesterday evening, thus the later post), I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving however you spend it. We'll be visiting our oldest and dearest friend in Columbus. She loves to cook and we love to eat – a perfect combination, don't you think?

And if you're bored, you can always stop by DL Hammons blog and vote in Round 3 of the WRiTE CLUB. I'm sure he'll appreciate you stopping by!

I usually don't take vacations around the holidays for the exact reasons you stated. The only exception, when Christmas falls on a Mon-Thur. I absolutely hate returning to work the day after opening presents...so I take a day off. :)

Thanks for the WRiTE CLUB mention! And don't forget about the Deja Vu Blogfest either. It's going to be EPIC!

Happy Thanksgiving! :)

DL, you're probably right about Christmas. Luckily, our company has a floating holiday. So I might just use it on Dec 26th next year!

Thanks for stopping by!

I used to love working through the holidays because all those "mission critical" things that couldn't get done due to constantly hopping from meeting to meeting finally had a chance to get done. Ah, the "good ol'" corporate days.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We take a Halloween staycation each year, and it's great. Most people are at work and we are free to go about our days. Love it.

Sometimes we take a Christmas holiday as well. Hubby did this year but I will work, but the days will be short.

Happy Eating.

KAK - Thank goodness I'm not "important" enough to be pulled into meetings. I get my work done, go home and forget about it! But I don't mind the quiet this time of year.

Whisk - Staycations can be nice (and cheaper), but for some reason, I feel guilty if I don't work around the house. Not that I do, I just feel guilty. I hate guilt! I want fun!

Thanks for visiting!

When I used to work for the man I always volunteered to work the holidays if hubby was working too. I prefer working the holidays. It's quiet, those of us who are left are in a good mood, and there's almost always cake and chocolate in the break room. :)

Cake and chocolate? Gee, I don't remember seeing any of that in OUR break room! :)

Thanks for visting, Maria, and Happy Thanksgiving!

I take Friday off to stretch the weekend and usually a few days around Christmas to spend time with family, but most of my off days are stay at home. I hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving Stacy!

Todd, I'm lucky I get Friday off already, so I don't have to take a vacation day. But if I didn't, I'd definitely take one.

Thanks for stopping by.
