Addicted To...

Okay, can I say I have a serious problem?

I am addicted to…conferences! I really never saw that coming, either.

I signed up for my fifth of the year (Central Ohio Fiction Writers Conference). I really shouldn't have spent the money, but it was local, and small, and they were screaming for attendees! Yes, I'm weak.

But for what it's worth, I will probably NOT attend RT or RWA Nationals next year. Not unless I'm published (or have a paying job). Those conferences are way, way expensive and not really feasible any longer. I will be sad to miss them since next year both are within driving distance (RT in Kansas City, RWA in Atlanta).

To recap, these are the conferences I have gone/will be going to this year:

So, what kind of weakness do you have? What do you have trouble saying no to? Come on, spill. I really want to know!

I love conferences but most are too rich for my blood.

The only thing I have trouble saying no to is Coke Zero. Otherwise, I'm made of steel. :)

Maria - Coke Zero? At least there aren't any calories in that. And they're cheaper than conferences!

I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't do another conference until Hunter's Way was ready to submit. Then I ended up tearing it apart (twice!) and re-writing it and missed the couple of conferences I really wanted to go to. Oh well, next year.

What can't I say no to? Easy - my grandkids.

Linda - Yeah, I'm sure if I had me some grandkids, I couldn't say no to them either!

But conferences are great to go to without having your book finished. The workshops are great and you meet so many people. You really need to rethink that! I find myself pumped up to write after I attend a writer conference.

Oh, look at that list! I'm envious.

I attend the NE SCBWI conference each year. I'd love to attend more.

Theresa - New follower! Yay!

I'm not sure what the NE SCBWI conference is, but if it's close to home, those are always the best (and cheapest) to attend!

Sadly, most of my addictions involve calories LOL. Things like Mtn Dew, chocolate, ice cream, potato chips.... at least they're not expensive! I like cons too, but find them less useful now than earlier in my writing journey. Have fun at Dragon Con!

Jennette - Ooh, ice cream. Especially COFFEE ice cream. Yeah, that's a weakness of mine, too.

So I guess I should be glad conferences are calorie-free! :)

I still haven't been to a conference, but I'd love to go one day. I can totally understand you being addicted. Being from small city Canada, the travel costs are usually crazy!

As to my weaknesses... too many to list but here's a couple: sappy movies, sappy commercials, chai tea, sci fi series and movies...

Jemi - Costs are a huge factor, that's for sure. But if you can find one close to home, I say go for it!
