Motivation

I have to say – having a deadline makes a HUGE difference in the way I treat my writing.

Used to be if I got tired, I'd stop and read or watch TV. Writing was only for me and I wasn't in any hurry to get a project done. In other words: I didn't push myself.

Now?

I get tired, but know I HAVE to get it done. Someone is WAITING on me. There's no later, there's only now. So I push myself.

I find that rather invigorating.

My writing has purpose!

I don't think I've ever enjoyed it more.

In other news, I have this picture…

Proof I was on a panel (I have no idea what that expression on my face is!).
From left: Melissa Landers( w/a Macy Beckett), Lori Langdon,
Kristen Bailey (w/a Jess Granger), Jennette Marie Powell, and me

And lastly…

Yesterday was my husband's 60th birthday. We went out to dinner (after his class), but will celebrate with the kids on Sunday and then with our friend later, in March. But I didn't want the big day not to go unnoticed (especially since he made sure no one at work knew!) so I'm here to say…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SWEETIE!!

Now I'll find out if he reads my blog – ha ha ha!

Have a nice Friday, all!

This is true. Once you're accountable to another person (or company) productivity zooms.

It's either that or the consequences. LOL. And no one wants that.

Happy birthday to your hubby.

It's hard to stay motivated when the only deadline is yours, and it's flexible. I think in the photo, we're politely listening to Macy/Melissa. :) And Happy BD to your DH!

Maria - Yeah, I definitely don't want to be known as a slow author!

Jennette - If I'm listening, I sure make funny faces, then. Yikes!

Goals definitely make things happen. Since you follow my blog, you know about "Eiffel." A June 1 deadline just makes words fly from my fingers. Now if you'll excuse me, I have 790 more words to write tonight.

Michael - Good luck on reaching your nightly goal!

It's good to meet you, Stacey!

And a happy birthday to your husband. Being on a panel can be a bit nerve-wracking, can't it? :)

Hi, Stacy. Yeah, it's funny how things can change. I have given myself a soft deadline for my latest WIP that I would like to hit, but, as you say, unless it's a hard deadline, it can get very easy to find other things to distract. I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Thanks for sharing that photo. *waves*

David - Anytime I stand in front of a crowd is nerve-wracking to me! Thanks for following!

Jimmy - Stuff still distracts me, unfortunately! :) Hope you meet all your goals, too!

Good for you. Nothing like a deadline to light a fire under our asses. Or arses, depending on location.

Either way, cheers to you for all the hard work, and Happy Birthday to your husband.
