What I Read Last Week

I'm not sure if any of you realize this, but my "reviews" of the books I read do not give ANYTHING away. No spoilers, I promise. I give the blurb off the book (which is in blue in case you don't want to read that) and I pretty much say whether or not I liked the book. So if you don't read my Wednesday blogs because you're afraid I'll give something away, fear not! I may rant about not liking an ending, but will never say what the ending is. I swear, I would never spoil a book for anyone, and just because I don't like it, doesn't mean you won't, too (and vice versa). Anyway, on to what I read this week:

Mar 16: "Frozen Heat" by Richard Castle (except, not really--and if you're a fan of the show, you should check out his site). This is the fourth book in the Nikki Heat series, supposedly written by the character on the television series "Castle." Blurb (from Goodreads): Nikki Heat and Jameson Rook are together again, facing an unsolved murder mystery that has haunted Nikki for ten years. NYPD Homicide Detective Nikki Heat arrives at her latest crime scene to find an unidentified woman stabbed to death and stuffed inside a suitcase left on a Manhattan street. Nikki is in for a big shock when this new homicide connects to the unsolved murder of her own mother. Paired once again with her romantic and investigative partner, top journalist Jameson Rook, Heat works to solve the mystery of the body in the suitcase while she is forced to confront unexplored areas of her mother's background. Facing relentless danger as someone targets her for the next kill, Nikki's search will unearth painful family truths, expose a startling hidden life, and cause Nikki to reexamine her own past. Heat's passionate quest takes her and Rook from the back alleys of Manhattan to the avenues of Paris, trying to catch a ruthless killer. The question is, now that her mother's cold case has unexpectedly thawed, will Nikki Heat finally be able to solve the dark mystery that has been her demon for ten years? These books are getting better as the series goes along, and I get a kick out of the references in them (this one has Detectives Malcolm and Reynolds, and you'd get that if you were/are a "Firefly" fan). I love the banter between Heat and Rook and laughed out loud numerous times. I still don't know who the actual author(s) is(are), but it's not like I'd go run out to read their other work. This series is fun because of the TV tie-in. Don't know how much you would like the book without that. I gave this book 4 stars on Goodreads.

Watched the Penguins beat the Capitals last night. That’s ten wins in a row! Yippee! Hockey season is great this year. Let’s Go Pens!!

I read the first Nikki Heat book but that was all. I just liked watching the show more. Maybe I'll try another one.

Linda - I like the show, but the books are fun, too. And like I said, they get better as you go along.

Rad! I love watching the show, plus I've liked Nathan Fillion since Firefly:)

Mark - I've got you beat. I've like him since "Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place"!

I should let you know I'd probably be commenting on your blog more often if I could get the thing to work on IE or AOL (I can't even see the posts!). It works on Chrome, but I really hate that thing! I find it bizarre, though.

Wait! You mean it isn't written by the character from the show? Talk about a spoiler!?! ;)
Just kidding. I'll have to read one of these. We watch the show over here all the time.
Hope the week is treating you well. *waves*

I think it's brilliant that they decided to actually write a Nikki Heat series. And if you didn't know, Richard Castle also tweets. For example, a few weeks back, he tweeted (paraphrasing) "Poor Alexis. Too sick to go to Paris with her mother. Mono stinks."

I once replied to a Castle tweet (and included @NathanFillion) with, "Has anyone ever said how much you two look alike?"

I am going to have to check this series out. I love watching the Castle shows, especially the poker games:)

Michael - Doesn't surprise me he (Richard Castle OR Nathan Fillion) tweets (I do not, though). So I'm guessing you knew about that website??

Sandra - It is a fun series (just remember the first one isn't as good as the rest).

I watched him back when he was still Captain Mel. Very funny stuff, Firefly. Dumb name though. I often feel had they come up with a better name, more would have tuned in.

Never watched him on Castle, but I hear great things.
