Beatnik Café and Catching Up

My writers group, Western Ohio Writers Association (WOWA), is putting on a Beatnik Café tomorrow at the Books & Company in Beavercreek, Ohio. It’s at 7pm, so if you’re in the area and want to hear some writers read their short, Halloween-themed stories, come on out. Then again, if you’re an Ohio State Buckeye fan, you might not want to (apparently that noon game was moved to 8pm - FIGURES!). Anyway, I’ll be there reading my piece, for whatever that’s worth!

I spent part of Thursday night trying to figure out how to post the little videos I took of the Footy games and still haven’t figured it out. By the time I finished, I realized how late it was and I hadn’t gotten my post ready (thus the lateness).

I do get up early in the morning, but I head straight for the gym, afraid ANY distraction will keep me from going. You know??? And I definitely need to be going. Seems that 10-day vacation without exercise was not in my best interest and my body is letting me know. Talk about stiff! Oh well, I’ll get it worked out. Eventually!

Kind of glad it’s Friday. Usually the days don’t mean that much to me, but I feel like I’m still trying to catch up from vacation. I will get my pictures posted next week (but won’t promise anything on the video).

Celebrate Paranormal Month at Lyrical Press is back (and catching up). Here are the latest links:

So, you got any plans for the weekend? You ever read any of your stories OUT LOUD in front of an AUDIENCE? I’ve done it once before, so hopefully I won’t look like a total wreck.

I like the idea of getting it done and over first thing. When I'm writing, writing, I like the first thing in the morning as well. I think better and then when I'm done, I'm energized for the day.

Have fun this weekend with your writer's group.

Ivy - I thought I'd like writing first thing in the morning, but I seem to do better after lunch. Which means I should be writing NOW! Except I need to read my short story out loud a few times (practice). I'll be lucky if I get to write today, I think!

I've never had to read anything out loud that I remember. --which is just as well since I'd probably feel self-conscious.

PS I emailed you something you might find interesting. ...small world.

Maria - It can be nerve-wracking, but at least I know some of the audience, so it makes it a little easier. And thanks for the link. I enjoyed it!

Good luck at the reading, Stacy. I tell myself I want to do it, but I haven't had the opportunity yet. As for the weekend, I'm hoping to do some actual writing!

Plans for the weekend? Contribute a 100-word short story here: http://jetreidliterary.blogspot.com/2013/10/scariest-writer-writing-contest.html Enter if you dare.

Then kids. Perhaps we will finish "Zero Dark 30" tonight.

Jeff - I NEVER want to read in public! Heck, I always hated to stand in front of the class. It's something I have to get over if I ever expect to make this writing career work, though, huh?

Michael - I've tried those 100-word short stories before. Never could figure out how to do that. I like writing LONG. Even my 900-word short story that I'm reading tonight is way short for me (I kept wanting to ADD stuff, but then it would be too long!).

I like exercise in the morning as well. It's fun to get into it early and be done. But right now, my spine says nooooo.

Good luck to you. Hope the reading practice helps. Have you recorded yourself and played it back yet?

I had to do that once for something and for the life of me, I can't remember what it was for.

Ivy - My reading went well (I think the practice helped). My husband said I didn't rush and I enunciated well (Yay!).

If I even still owned a tape recorder (which I don't think I do), I have trouble listening to my own voice. Wouldn't matter WHAT I was saying, either! Haha!

Very good to hear that
it went well. I had
been thinking about you,
and wondered how it went.

Congrats on not rushing
through all the words.
