Snow, Books, Sick, and the Oscars

Snow can really ruin plans, ya know? We received 5” of the stuff Saturday—3-1/2” of it had fallen overnight, the rest continued through most of the day. We were supposed to go to our friend’s place to celebrate my sweetie’s birthday, but she lives in Columbus—70 miles away—and the snow was headed her way.

Now, I don’t mind driving in the snow. I just don’t like driving in the snow when there are other drivers on the road. And I remembered one Christmas when it had snowed and we drove out to her place, there were accidents all over the place. I didn’t want to risk it, so I cancelled (broke my heart to do it, though—it’s been hard hooking up with her lately).

So, with our plans out into the snow (so to speak), we had to figure out what we were going to do for dinner. I suggested ordering out for pizza (we hadn’t done that in ages). The kids still came over and we played games for a few hours. Ended up having a great time.

Take that, snow!

When my daughter arrived, though, she came bearing gifts—for me! She handed me a stack of six books: Richelle Mead’s Bloodlines series. I had refused to read the books as they came out, because she ended each book in the Vampire Academy series in a cliffhanger (according to my daughter, she did with this series, too), and I think you all know how much I hate those, so when I heard there would only be six books in the series, I told my daughter not to give them to me until she’d read them all (she apparently loves to be tortured). She finished the last one this past weekend. Now I have six books added to my pile to read and wonder when I’ll ever get to them.

Sounds like I need another vacation or cruise or something. J

Seems I’m not immune to getting a cold this year after all (I had really hoped, though). Getting sick is the pitts. The pitts, I tell you!

So… Did you watch the Oscars last night? I’m such a sucker for those award shows, but sometimes I discover movies I’d never heard of before. Like “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” I’m thinking I want to go see that one now.

Have a good day!

Stacy

Grand Budapest Hotel is supposed to be quite good! Sorry to hear you're not feeling well; that's never any fun. Hope you make a speedy recovery. No Oscars for me, haven't watched them in years. Enjoy your reading!

I'm sorry you didn't get to visit your friend. Winter can't last forever. :hugs: Yay for time with the kids and pizza and new books! And Boo for the cold.

I don't watch the Oscars - but then again I don't watch new movies until they come out on basic TV. I did catch part of The Grand Budapest Hotel, but it confused me right off the bat, so I changed channels. I had hoped it would be like The Best Ever Marigold Hotel, so my expectations are probably what killed it for me.

Jeff - I hope I make a speedy recovery, too. I have a doctor's appt. tomorrow for something totally different, but I'm afraid he'll think I'm there for my cold!

Beth - The Grand Budapest Hotel does look a bit zaney. Probably good I know that going in. It's on demand for free on HBO, now I just have to remember it's THERE! Haha!

I'm sorry you're sick. And then to be cooped up too.

At least your family was able to come to you.

Hope you feel better soon.

I didn't know the Oscars were on, but I did get to enjoy a spring-like day, shopping. Then night hit and so did the burrrr.

Sounds like you had a great weekend.

Maria - I think I'm always cooped up. I like writing at home! :)

Ivy - Spring-like day, like in spring-like weather? It hasn't hit above freezing here in several days and won't for several more days. When the river freezes, you know it's been bad.

I hate driving in snow because 1) it slows me down and 2) too many others don't know how. I watch very little TV and movies, so no Oscar-watching for me. I hope you feel better soon!

Jennette - Yeah, I can see how snow would slow you down! Haha! :)

Totally spring yesterday (during the day), here. I was out shopping and could not believe the sunshine and warm air.

BUT .... on the ride home at night, temps dropped fast, snow fell and big time burr.

Cold today, but sunny.

I have an extreme dislike for books that end in a cliff-hanger as well...especially if it's not expected. Grrrrrrr :)

Sorry you've been dealing with a cold and the snow but glad you've got a good stock of reading material:)

Ivy - Yep, very sunny today. Snow was practically blinding!

DL - I can handle a cliff hanger when it doesn't associate the two main characters (especially when I'm reading a series that has an overall storyline), but dang, don't leave me hanging about the main characters. Not cool!

Sandra - I have WAY too much reading material. Okay, maybe not too much. Can you ever have too many books? Really? Nah.

I live in Los Angeles and I never watch them. But, kudos to those who do. Good job on raising a daughter who brings you gifts of books!

Jenn - I used to live in Santa Barbara and I always watched the Oscars. I didn't care about the actors and dresses. I just wanted to know which movies won!
