Wednesday Reads

Here’s what I read this week (and I just barely got this one in):

Oct 27: “Chalvaren Rising” by Paula Millhouse, a romantic fantasy at 318 pages. Blurb from Goodreads: Twenty-five years ago, Theo Ansgar abandoned the Kingdom of Chalvaren for a hiding place on another world. Some called him traitor. Some, thief. Now his fully grown daughter Mia must return to the land of her birth…and their war. It was the elf prince Kort Elias who brought her back. Theirs was an instant connection, an inescapable union of body, soul and sorcery, reminding Mia of what she truly is, and what she must become. There is also Magnus, destined to be more potent than any wyrm Chalvaren has ever seen, a three-day-old dragonlet Mia must nurture and then ride. And then there is the Dragonstone, an artifact of power nonpareil. Joined, they can tip the scales of battle against the wraith-possessed forces of darkness, of Mia’s own embittered kin. Redemption will be offered, the protected will become the protector, and an ancient prophecy will come to fruition, but only righteous love can conquer all. If you like a fantasy world, elves, and dragons, give this one a try. But start with the short story, Dragonstone, first. A fun story in itself, and it might help ease a little confusion at the beginning of this book.

I was surprised I didn’t get as much reading finished this past week as I thought I would. But the drive from Cleveland was so pretty this time of year and I wanted to see all the fall colors! Since I drove to Cleveland, dark and early, I got no reading in then, either. And then, when I did have time to read, my Nook had died on me. Wouldn’t have had that problem with a paperback. I think I’ll stick to paper for awhile. It’s not like I’m going anywhere anyway. Homebound for the rest of the year!

So…do you like to read fantasies?

Happy Reading!

Stacy

I don't read fantasy as a rule, but will pick up something if it strikes me as particularly compelling. Bummer about the Nook!

Jeff - I just don't understand my Nook. I can go days and it stays at 90%. Then other times it drains practically overnight! Argh.

Nopers, not me. But I do read about intestines, bacteria, whole foods and herbology.

Ivy - Intestines? Bacteria? Hmmm... Sounds like horror to me! :)

I go in cycle cravings. Right now it's paranormal, not fantasy. I could be persuaded into it if, let's say, it's fae that look like those from the "Lord of Rings" movies. --T

Tanja - Couldn't tell you if this book is like the fae from the Lord of the Ring movies, since I never read those books or saw the movies. But I like how you could be persuaded, though. :)

Oh, it's fascinating to me to learn about the human digestive system, the organs and all the other gooey good parts we're made of. Toss a few books about herbals, whole foods and bakes, and I'm in hog heaven.
