No Wednesday Reads?

That’s right. I was a slow reader this past week. Blame it on Thanksgiving and Black Friday and Cyber Monday and…whatever.

All of those kept me from writing, too. I’m good at making excuses, huh? I should get a medal.

Yesterday I was supposed to see the physician’s assistant (PA) about my knee, but he had some kind of medical emergency and my appointment was rescheduled for Dec 10th. At least my knee isn’t bothering me so much now. I walked for 40 minutes on Monday and Tuesday and so far I’ve only got a twinge of pain. I’ll blame that on the fact I haven’t exercised in awhile. Starting over really sucks.

Ahhh… But at least I’m starting! Now I have to keep my fingers crossed I don’t injure myself again. Or get sick again. Or just get lazy again. Any of those could possibly happen. Good thing snow isn’t forecasted, or that lazy thing might kick in. J

Maybe my new Fitbit will keep me motivated. I got it in the mail yesterday. Haven’t had a chance to really use it yet, but I’ll put it to work today. I’m really hoping all that crawling walking is getting my heart rate up (and the Fitbit will tell me that). And if it’s not up? Then I’ll have to wait until I see the PA. I will NOT injure my knee again.

At least I hope I don’t.

One thing about walking for 40 minutes on the treadmill: I get to read for 40 minutes. Hopefully I’ll have two books to report next week!

So… What is something that you seem to continuously make up have excuses to keep you from doing? You know, like: I’d go on a diet, except I have to eat. J

I’m so bad today, aren’t I?

Happy Reading!

Hey, if you can walk for 40 minutes, you're doing great.

What exactly does a Fitbit do? They seem awfully expensive.

Maria - A Fitbit keeps track of your steps and heart rate (and some other stuff I'm not sure I'll use). You can have friends and compete on who does better (my friend, Mary, does this with her sister). I got it especially for the heart rate monitor. I want to make sure I'm getting 150 minutes of cardio a week (per my doctor's orders), and the Fitbit records this great! I walked 45 minutes on the treadmill this morning and it recorded that 40 minutes of it was in my cardio range. Tomorrow I'll see how it does when I work on the weights (I only walked today). They are expensive, but I got mine during Black Friday for $119 (usually, they're $150). I probably wouldn't have bothered buying one if it weren't for the fact I want to track my heart rate now.

"I don't have time" and "I'm too tired" are my favorite excuses. I know I'm BSing myself on the first when I somehow manage to find time to play Clash of Clans, but the second is sometimes true.

The treadmill is my exercise of choice because I can read! That helps tamp down the excuses. :)

House cleaning.

I'm glad the knee is doing better, don't push yourself too much!

I have the problem of too many excuses, and getting lazy too. I use an eleptical, and I'd trade it for a tread mill in a heartbeat. I can only be on it between 10 and 20 minutes before my ankles get too numb to keep at it. I stopped for about three weeks, started again today. I flip my kindle over the clock and distract myself with the reading. Easier to do on a treadmill.

Jennette - I've used "I don't have time" plenty of times. Bad me!

Jeff - If you saw my house, you'd know I've been using lots of excuses to avoid cleaning it. "I don't have time" is one of those! Haha!

Donna - My toes get numb on an elliptical and is the main reason I don't use it. I guess I'm trying to grip the foot pads or something. Plus, it is harder to read on one of those things (and I have to read if I hope to get a long walk in). I can't always hold a book since I usually have to hold onto the machine so I don't fall off!

Have fun with your new walking tool. I heard on treadmills that they don't read unless put in the pocket. NO IDEA if that's true or not.

Ivy - I haven't had any issues about the Fitbit not working on the treadmill. Getting the heart rate monitor to work when I get sweaty though, is a challenge.

That's fantastic. Maybe they worked out the kink, this was from way back when I was looking at ones for Frankenberry. I read about treadmill and pushing carts about at the grocery market.

Happy Exercising & Boogie Boogie.
