Any Road

I’ve been walking to and from the fitness center this week. In the process, I’ve been kind of exploring other, quieter streets to take. On Tuesday I ended up on a street that turned the wrong direction (instead of going straight to the street I thought it went to). Yeah, streets are weird like that, huh? What made it funny, was the song that was playing at the time, and this phrase:

“If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there.”

I didn’t know at the time who was singing this song (George Harrison). Heck, I didn’t even know I had it on my iTunes (it came from the 2004 Grammy CD). But I sure did think it was ironic playing when I had no idea where I was going.

So, on this Friday, I’ll let you enjoy this song. I really like it. Don’t know why it took me so long to finally hear it. I guess when you have more than 3000 songs, it’ll take awhile before you can hear them all, huh?

Enjoy “Any Road” by George Harrison.

By the way, in my quest of walking home that day, I did manage to find a path to the street I was looking for. But it certainly won’t be the way I’ll walk home from now on. Seems there aren’t any quieter streets without really going out of my way. Maybe when I want to walk more than 5 miles a day, I’ll start taking them.

So… Do you like to explore your town? I was surprised to find an apartment (or condominium) complex I never knew existed. It was very nice. And quiet. J

Happy Friday!

Stacy

First song I heard on the radio once while setting out on a long trip for a job interview: Road to Nowhere by Talking Heads.

Should have turned right around!

Who knows, you may find inspiration for a new character/setting/story on one of your rambles!

Jeff - I always come up with solutions to writing problems while walking. It's one of the reasons I prefer to walk outside. Well, that and the semi fresh air (it's why I try to find those quieter streets--less traffic). But "Road to Nowhere"... Yeah, that's what I felt like I was walking on Tuesday. I swear it was going to take me in a circle! :)

When I first moved to north Texas, I used to use my lunch hour to explore the vicinity. Every day I would take a new street and see what lived out there.

I learned a lot about my workplace neighborhood.

Maria - I find you remember the area BETTER when you walk through it, too.
