Addicting Olympics and Upcoming Events

Are you watching the Olympics? I’m enjoying it so far. I have a feeling I won’t be writing so much in the next couple of weeks.

It’s always something, isn’t it?

And Hubby leaves on a business trip today. Here I thought I would get LOTS of stuff done. Nope. Got myself pretty much glued to the set.

Why is it so addicting?

On Friday I’ll be at the Rust City BookConvention in Troy, MI (near Detroit). The book signing on Saturday is free to the public, so if you’re in the area, I hope you’ll stop by.

Hey! Since I’m not making a post on Friday (want to keep that magic number of 13/month) AND I won’t have finished reading “End of Watch” (big book and the Olympics) to have a Wednesday Reads, I’ve decided to finally post that short story I mentioned on my blog HERE and HERE. So come back here on Wednesday and give it a read!

It’s a silly story (I was 15 when I wrote it--see the picture?), and kind of long (6600 words), but I hope it makes you laugh.

Funny thing, as I was hunting for this short story to take a picture of it, I found a bunch of other stories I had written in high school. Disturbing stories.

I wonder if my teacher worried about me. I was quiet in class. You know you always have to worry about the quiet ones, right? Haha!

So… What’s your favorite events on the Olympics? I like the swimming and gymnastics and beach volleyball and those bicycle races (oh… the women’s race was HEARTBREAKING!!). Go USA!

Happy Monday!

I'm not watching the Olympics, but I did watch both political conventions and all the news coverage. Talk about addicting. Thankfully, I've weaned myself away from the television.

When we moved into this house, I found all the stuff I wrote in college. Yeah, I get what you mean about teachers wondering about you b/c of the stuff we wrote back when. What was I even thinking?

Have fun at the convention.

I used to watch the Olympics, but now it's too much politics and media drama. Hubby gives me the details at the end of the day.

My favorite event has always been Men's gymnastics. I admire that kind of strength.

I don't watch much TV anymore. I catch up with the Olympic via the highlights on the news. I think I enjoyed the videos of the parents and spouses watching from the stands as much as the Olympics events themselves.

Anne - I stayed away from the conventions. Got enough information through my newspaper. Ugh.

Maria - Politics and media drama? Maybe in the opening ceremonies. :) Otherwise, I don't notice it. Then again, I could be tuning all that out.

Valerie - Watching the parents (especially in gymnastics) can be hilarious.

Personally, I've always found the Winter Olympics more entertaining.

What makes the Olympics so addicting is that the networks have mastered The Tease. "That Event You Really, REALLY Want To See will be next!" Which is true, if the word 'next' means 'after 28 minutes of commercials, five "Up Close and Personal" segments on athletes you've never heard of, three Bob Costas monologues, multiple cutaways to Your Favorite Athlete in That Event You Really, REALLY Want To See arriving at the stadium, warming up, hanging with their coach, and a lengthy breakdown of Norway's surprise victory in the 200m Egg-in-a-Spoon Relay.

Enjoy!

Jeff - Okay, now I'm REALLY wondering if I should record tonight's episode and start watching it an hour or so after it starts. But then I don't get other stuff done during all those things you mentioned. You know, like write or something.
