I Got LUCKY

On Wednesday I walked to Bob Evans to meet Hubby for breakfast (as I do every Wednesday). I packed my little purse with my driver’s license and a Bob Evans gift card, along with my phone, so I can listen to music during my walk.

Do you listen to iTunes on your iPhone? Do you sometimes find that the shuffle isn’t really shuffling ALL the music? I have over 3000 songs on my phone, so I shouldn’t be hearing repeats in a week. More like in 100 days. I don’t walk THAT often (90 minutes a day, 5 days a week, max). So during my walk I pulled out my phone a few times to skip those repeat songs, and apparently I pulled out more than that.

When I went to pay for breakfast, I couldn’t find my driver’s license. I was so sure I put it in the purse, too.

Now, when I walk to Bob Evans, I usually take the long way: 3.25 miles. But my knee had been acting up (and I was walking slower), so I went a shorter way: 3.0 miles. When I walk home, I usually take an even shorter (but still quiet) route: 2.45 miles. And if my feet hurt or the weather is unbearable, the most direct (and noisiest) route: 1.75 miles. I wasn’t in the mood to walk back 3 miles (it was hot and muggy and my knee was still feeling funny), but now it looked like I had to.

So, during my walk home, I scoured the ground every step of the way (even walking on the wrong side of the street—the part that doesn’t have sidewalks; good thing there wasn’t much traffic!). Then I reached the part where I would have walked if I had gone the most direct route. Still no license in sight.

A mile left to walk and I wasn’t feeling very optimistic.

But as I approached my neighborhood, there on the grass of the first house was my license! You don’t know how HAPPY I was to have found it. I was so afraid I was going to have to make a trip to the DMV. Yeah, I could have been mad that I didn’t have to walk the long way home, but hey, I found it and didn’t care!

So yeah, I got LUCKY!

This Sunday, Hubby and I will be going to see an Abba concert (four people who look and sound like them, I assume). We’ve seen these kinds of concerts before and really enjoyed them. I mean, what’s not to love about Abba’s music? I was a fan from the beginning!

So… Have you ever lost something and got lucky and found it? My hubby lost his flash drive this week. The book he’s been working on is on this drive (a text book for the college course he teaches). Silly him hadn’t backed it up recently and we can’t find that thing anywhere. I know he’ll feel extremely lucky if he does find it, but I’m thinking that sucker is GONE. Teach him not to back up his work. You’d think he’d learn from me!!!

Have a great weekend!

Stacy

The mock Abba group sounds fun. I still listen to the real thing, today. Great stuff. And yes, I've lost my DL before. Thankfully, someone brought it to the cops and they called me.

Happy Weekend.

Back when I was young and still slim, I lost my wedding ring. I discovered it was missing shortly after being elbows deep in the toilet tank to repair something or other. Gone.

About a year later I found it buried deep beneath the junk that accumulated in the bottom of the backpack I took to work every day.

Glad you found your license--enjoy the show, and the weekend!

You are very lucky!

On my honeymoon I lost my engagement ring. I was devastated. The maid found it when she cleaned the room and left it on the bedside table.

I left her a very BIG tip. :)

Ivy - Yeah, I kind of hoped if I hadn't found the card on my walk back, that maybe someone would have found it and put it in my mailbox or something!

Jeff - So... you have TWO wedding rings now? Which one do you wear? Or did you just never replace it?

Maria - I never had an engagement ring (he proposed via U.S. Mail, and we were engaged for about a week!), but I can imagine what it must have felt like losing it. So nice what the maid did. I'd have left her a big tip, too.

I'm glad you found your license! The only thing worse is losing your wallet with everything in it. I did that a few years ago and now I am obsessively careful. I copied everything in my wallet and saved it to my computer. I love ABBA! Enjoy the show.

Valerie - Yeah, losing a wallet could be pretty bad. Hope I never do that!

Whew. So glad you found it! Last year I drove off and left my purse in the cart when I put it in the cart corral at Walmart. Lucky for me, I stopped to get gas before I drove the thirty minutes home and saw my purse wasn't in the car. Extra lucky, my purse was still in the cart in the corral and no one had messed with it.

B.E. - Dang! You're luckier than me! :)

Stacy--I never replaced it. I had an offer from my mother-in-law to use my FiL's, but I couldn't take someone else's ring. As for replacing, money was a bit tight, so...it all worked out in the end, though.

For me, it's the cell phone. I leave it everywhere else, but with me.
Last week, I left it in a Pittsburgh restaurant. Drove back the next day (1 hour ea. way) to pick it up.

For the flash drive? My mom always advocated saying the Guardian Angel prayer when we couldn't find something.

Enjoy the Abba concert. My brother mentioned taking my dad to an oldies concert this weekend. Hmm.
