I’m So Glad the Olympics are Ending!

You all know I love the Olympics. I love it too much. I’ve got the TV on all day and I’m watching, which means I’m not getting much else done. So yeah, I’ll be glad when it all ends this weekend. That means life can go back to normal.

Sure, I could have just turned off the TV. But the Olympics only come around every 2 years (I’m just as addicted to the winter games, too) and I just love seeing people compete. I love seeing all the countries together. Kind of wish that could happen year ’round, ya know?

Anyway, my WIP has been sadly neglected. So has my reading. And my exercise (I’ve been going to bed after midnight, and getting up early isn’t appealing). That will all end next week. Like I said, back to normal.

Well… until I leave for Dragon Con. Gosh! That’s less than 2 weeks away!!

The disruptions never seem to end, do they?

The Go-Go’s concert Wednesday night was fun. Just wish I didn’t have to wait through two (count them, TWO) opening acts to get to them. So they only played for about an hour. I’m hoping the Dixie Chicks play longer than that. We see them next week in Noblesville (Indianapolis area).

The funny thing about the Go-Go’s concert: our neighbors had the seats next to us! We don’t know them that well, so it’s not like we planned it. What are the odds, huh?

So… Are you happy football has started? Hubby’s happy that the last two Steelers games have been on TV here (not that they've been playing well). We don’t usually get preseason games. I’m not into preseason all that much. I like it when the game counts for something.

Happy Friday!

Stacy

Did you spend an awkward evening sitting next to your neighbors, or did you discover nice things about them and become friends?

On the strange concert coincidence front, a couple of years ago my wife and I went to see Peter Gabriel at Saratoga. While hanging around the parking lot before the show, we hear someone call us. It's a guy we used to work with who came up, by himself, from Long Island (a 4 hour drive). We had not seen this guy in at least 20 years. Bizarre.

I have not been watching the Olympics, but it sure seems like there's more controversy than normal! Enjoy the final weekend.

We've been watching a lot of the Olympics, too. But I got lucky and had sent this book to the editor, so no deadlines. Like you, though, I have been neglecting new words. Back to that ASAP. These books ain't gonna write themselves. ;o)

The Olympics were on this summer?

Jeff - If they had sat besides us before the first opening act, or even the second opening act, we might have had a conversation (provided Hubby started it--I'm lousy at conversation). But they didn't sit there until just before the Go-Go's took the stage, so we pretty much sat there and listened to the music.

B.E. - Deadlines? What are those? Yeah, I'm THAT bad. Haha! :)

Ivy - Seriously? You didn't know? It's not too late to watch. Closing ceremony is Sunday.

I haven't been getting much writing done lately either. Yes, there's been some staying up late to watch Olympics, but mostly because we've been working on our kitchen remodel. Will be soooooo glad when that's done!

Jennette - I look forward to seeing it when it's all finished, too!

At least seeing your neighbors at the concert, now you know you have one thing in common.

I used to have more interest in the Olympics, but the constant media coverage makes it look like one of those reality tv shows. Fewer stories about heroes who sacrifice and struggle, and more stories about jerks and cheaters. The media isn't entirely to blame though. They give the public what it wants. It's a sad commentary.

The really big rock that I live under, doesn't have a TV.

I can't wait until it's over too. I'm not a huge sports fan, so I haven't watched any of it. However, I have to say, having the Olympics on TV has cut down on the exposure to the political battles raging and to me that's a good thing.

Maria - Besides the Ryan Lochte story, most of the stories seemed upbeat. I didn't have any problem watching them (when I didn't record them, that is--in that case I was zipping through everything except final events so I could get to bed at a decent hour!).

Ivy - Do you watch your movies/dvds on the computer, then? Cause I know you watch some stuff! Still, I can't imagine not having a TV. I love sports too much.

Anne - Politics? What's that? **snicker**

I posted my answer but don't see it here.

We have a TV in the Lemon Tart Room and we watch NetFlix, Amazon and YouTube through the xbox. But before I met Tim, I kept my small TV turned on its side in the quiet room and used the TV as an end table. Then when I would watch something, which was rare, I'd move the TV plug it in.

But if someone told me I could never watch something again, I'd be fine with it.
