Wednesday Reads and a Nail-Biting Night Ahead

I might get the house to myself for a few hours this afternoon. Hubby said he wanted to pop into work, especially since he doesn’t have any appointments today. Maybe I can get that short story finished. Hmmm… Here’s what I read the past week:

Book #32

Dates read: May 4-7
Title: “Saving Mercy”
Year of publication: 2017
Author: Abbie Roads
Genre: Romantic suspense with paranormal elements
Series: Fatal Truth Series #1
# of Pages: 302
Paper or plastic: Mass market paperback
How obtained: Free at RT Booklovers Convention
Blurb from Book: Cain Killion knows himself to be a damaged man. His only redeeming quality? The extrasensory connection to blood that he uses to catch killers. His latest case takes a macabre turn when he discovers a familiar and haunting symbol linking the crime to his horrific past—and the one woman who might understand what it means.
Mercy Ledger is brave, resilient, beautiful—and in terrible danger. The moment Cain find her, the line between good and evil blurs and the only thing clear to them is that they belong together. Love is the antidote for blood—but is their bond strong enough to overcome the madness that stalks them?
My thoughts: Yes, I got this book free, but I WAS going to buy it (it was on my wishlist at B&N). I can’t help it if it was in the goody room at RT and I’m not stupid to pass it up! J This was a good story (as well as dark and gory), but I can’t help but feel that maybe parts of it were kind of rushed. Even so, it won’t stop me from picking up the next in the series…whether I buy it or get it free!

Hubby is now officially back to getting his medical treatments on base, which is fine since he’s in follow-up mode (and he’s getting hydrated every other day instead of every day). Seems we have a bit of a snafu on the insurance we hope will get straightened. Otherwise, we’re looking at a bill we didn’t expect to pay. So far it looks like good news, but we won’t know for sure until we start getting revised bills.

Insurance—never a dull moment. Am I right or am I right?

So… Game 7 is tonight. I’ll be lucky if I survive the night. Or at least my fingernails. Maybe I should wear gloves. What makes you chew your nails?

Happy Reading!

Stacy

It should not have come to a game seven.
Insurance is such a mess. I think things get messed up on purpose just so we end up paying extra. Hope your mess gets sorted.

Alex - I agree. How'd we get to game 7? This night will be stressful.

What can I say? When you're right, you're right.

Sometimes I think insurance companies deliberately make you run through hoops to see who gives up first.

I had a neighbor who loved to go through his wife's itemized hospital bill and make them explain every single bullet point. Bills might be painful, but he gave as good as he got. Often times he found overcharges and false charges.

Sounds like your husband is doing well-hooray for him!

Hope you enjoyed the game. I only saw the last period. The Penguins really stoppered Washington pretty good there. Enjoy the next round!

Maria - Luckily we have people on base helping us out with Tricare. I won't breathe easy until it's all resolved, though.

Jeff - Can't say I ENJOYED the game so much. I was a nervous wreck through most of it. So glad the Penguins decided to show up tonight!!

I don't follow hockey, but it appears from the comments that your Penguins pulled it out so I'm happy for you.

My last nail chewing game. Last Saturday. High school girls lacrosse. Indian Hill, #2 D2 in the state vs. DeSales, #1 D2 in the state. They traded goals throughout the game till Indian Hill won it 9-8 to take over the #1 state spot. Oh yeah...my Gretchen plays for Indian Hill.

Linda - Yep, the Penguins won. On to the Eastern Conference Finals. Yay! And Yay to your granddaughter! My kids didn't play sports in school (both were in the band), but I can imagine I would have been nervous if they had.
