I Hope I Didn’t Make a Huge Mistake

BUT FIRST… Did you see last night’s game??? Buckeyes are playing for the Championship!!!!!! It’ll be the Bucks and the Ducks on January 12th. I’m so happy.

I stayed up to watch the whole thing (how could I not?) which is one reason I’m late at posting this. The other? The reason for this posting! Haha! J

So…what mistake would that be? Impulse buying.

On New Year’s Eve, the hubby and I went to Columbus a little early because he wanted to stop at Micro Center to get his flash drive replaced (they are guaranteed forever, I guess). While he stood in line to get his replacement, I asked him if the store sold laptops. He said they did. Told him I would just go take a look.

Yeah, I took a look all right. Left the store with a new laptop, too.

I would be writing this ON the new laptop, but I still have to get my files transferred and I wanted to get this posted first. However…the new computer DOES have Office 2003. I may be upgrading my computer, but not my software—not yet, anyway.

I like my old Toshiba (I’ve had it since April 2009 and until recently it’s been pretty reliable), and I looked at those, but the one I would have gotten was out of stock. Did that stop me from looking elsewhere? Nope.

My new laptop is a HP ProBook (business class). It has Windows 7 Professional on it (no Windows 8 for this writer), which was the selling point for me. It will run faster, has a camera (my old one doesn’t), a number keyboard (yay!), a battery that will last about 6 hours (my old one didn’t even last 2), and the space bar works (it has been getting worse each day on my old laptop).

I just hope I like using the new laptop. I’m not fond of change, especially when it comes to computers. At least it fits in my computer backpack (thank goodness—I LOVE that thing), so that’s one thing that won’t frustrate me.

So, if I seem kind of grumpy in the next few weeks, at least you’ll know why.

Then again, I could still be on a high from the Buckeyes win. Maybe I bought the laptop at the right time? Hmmm…

So… Got any plans this weekend? I may take the tree down, especially if my new laptop starts to drive me nuts! J

Happy Friday!

Stacy

First comment from my new laptop. Have to say, my blog came up a lot faster on this one. But I'm still getting that recaptcha thing, which I understood was because I was on IE9. I'm using IE11 now, so what gives? Hmmm...

Oh my gosh, what a great new toy/work tool/gadget and all around fun thing to start the new year with.

How are the keys, comfy? Congrats on your Buckeyes. Woohoo.

PS: Waiting for Frankenberry to get home and then we're gonna hit Barnes. He's got half day. Not too bad.

Ivy - Can't say learning a new laptop is all that fun. The keys are different, but I'm sure I'll get used to them. Since I have the number pad off to the right (which I wanted, by the way), it's kind of throwing my touch off. I keep hitting the 0 when I want an arrow key. I'll get there, though. Have fun at Barnes! :)

Congrats on the new purchase. Is Windows 8 a complete catastrophe, or do most people just hate change? I'm still on Vista, personally, but I expect my computer is going to die in a year or so.

By the way, I've noticed everyone seems to be on reCAPTCHA again--did they change the default settings?

Jeff - My husband works with computers all day long and refuses to get Windows 8. Windows 10 is due out to be like Windows 7 (so maybe that answers your question?), but I was afraid my old computer would die before it was released and after any chance of getting Windows 7. My old computer has Vista.

Also, nice to know it's not just me on that recaptcha thing (and my settings are marked NOT to show it). But you don't have to click on any of that nonsense for your comments to go through. At least I don't. :)

Congrats on the new machine. I'd love to get a new computer, but I dread having to move software and files.

Re: Recaptcha
Means nothing. I don't even click on it and the comment still goes through. Blogger is still shaking out the tree.

Maria - Moving files is a bear. Getting used to new software even worse. Thank GOD my old computer still runs. I had to figure out what options I had checked or unchecked for Word (which I hadn't upgraded, only installed new with THEIR defaults) and it was easy to turn on the other computer and look. Whew! Disaster averted. And by disaster, I mean I didn't throw my computer against the wall! Haha! :)

I'm so jealous that you managed to avoid Windows 8. I got a new laptop and got stuck with it. I despise Windows 8! Enjoy the new laptop - hope it is a smooth transition!

Susan - Yeah, I stayed away from any laptop that had 8. Heard too many horror stories. Still getting used to this one, though. I hate change! Haha! :)

Good luck with the laptop. I just got a new one too. Went back to a Toshiba, didn't care for the brand I had.

Hope you are enjoying the new computer. That was an expensive flash-drive, lol.

Sandra - Hope you're enjoying your new laptop. Now that I got my AOL mail transferred to mine, I'm not so grumpy. But man, yesterday was HORRIBLE! I hate it when the computer tells me I can't do something! :)

Donna - Yeah, it was. Haha! :)

Catching up late on my blogs--wow, that game was a thriller, wasn't it???

And I bet you'll come to love your new computer. Especially with Windows 7! That's what all of mine have, both here and at work. My daughter puts up with 8, but hardly anyone else does. Happy writing--and web surfing!

Jennette - I saw your comment and thought, what game? Then I re-read may post. Duh! Last night's Steelers' game was HORRIBLE, though! I'm still bummed about that.

As for my computer... once I was able to get my e-mails transferred, life became better! Still getting used to where some of my keys went off to! I type by touch and keep hitting the wrong keys. Ugh.

Does take a little time to get used to a new keyboard. That's the major thing I look for when buying a new toy. I have to be able to type.
