Lori Foster Reader Author Get Together

I’m at the Lori Foster Reader Author Get Together in West Chester, Ohio. Tonight I’ll be at the book fair, selling (and signing) the anthologies I’m included in. It’s open to the public, so if you find yourself in the West Chester area, at the Marriott Hotel, between 5-7pm, come look for me! Haha!

On Saturday I’m included in a live blog feed. Here are the details I got:

Sat, Jun 7, 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM - BACKSTAGE PASS
Confirmed Authors: Milly Taiden, Nancy Northcott, Tigris Eden, Chelsea O'Neal, Robyn Peterman, Stacy McKitrick, Jessica Lemmon, Paige Tyler, Catherine Castle, and Heather Long
Interviewer: Joyfully Reviewed
Moderators: Liza Brown
Hangouts On Air Link: https://plus.google.com/events/cq6rh0tndahjl06nmq4opi73rig
YouTube Link: http://youtu.be/UPhEFXtAGq0

Not sure how it’s all going to work, or if I’ll be able to be heard (gotta talk for that to happen, right?), but if you’re free during that time and have nothing else better to do, check it out. And then tell me what you saw/heard. I’m really curious!

Here are some pictures of the gift basket I’ve donated to the convention.

And here’s a better shot of the scarf I made. I thought it turned out pretty nice.

Don’t know how often I’ll be on my computer while I’m here, but at least I have free internet (shocker, huh?).

Hope you’re having as much fun as I am this weekend. Well, I hope I’m having loads of fun. I’m trying, anyway.

Soon to be Freaking Out, I Think

This year I will be attending at least three conventions: Romantic Times Booklovers Convention (RT), Lori Foster Reader/Author Get Together (RAGT), and Dragon*Con (DC).

I’m all set up as attending as an author for RT and RAGT. I plan on selling and signing copies of the anthologies at RT (I’ll let people know My Sunny Vampire is available electronically--not that I can sign a copy) and haven’t exactly decided what I’ll do at RAGT (hopefully I’ll hear from the publicist from my publisher so I can figure out what I CAN do before the deadline to submit books has come). And while I usually attend DC for fun and writing information, this year I actually put in an application to be a Guest.

Aack! What was I thinking??

Just filling out the application unnerved me. Am I expecting them to pay my transportation there? Or my lodging? (Uhh…no, but heck, wouldn’t THAT be something?) Do I have an assistant I want to accompany me? (While my daughter would love nothing more than to brag about that, I didn’t list anyone.) They cap the Guest spots at 400. I’m sure I’ll be way down at the bottom, added only if they haven’t reached their limit. Heck, I’m not even sure WHAT I would do. I was just kind of looking to be on a panel. And maybe get a special badge! And maybe…you know…get reimbursed my membership fee.

So if I don’t get picked, no biggie. If I do…yeah, that’s when I’ll start freaking out. But hey, I gotta get used to doing the uncomfortable if I hope to have any chance at being a success at this writing thing.

So…are you attending any conventions this year? Let me tell you, I’m so glad I attended them BEFORE I became published. Sure does take some of the stress off, since I’m going in knowing what they’re like.

I'm Out Having Fun!

Today and tomorrow I will be wandering around the Marriott in West Chester, OH, attending the Lori Foster Reader Author Get Together. If you happen to be going to this event and see me, please say hello!

I'm going to try and be more social this year. Of course, I say that EVERY year, then I get scared and plant my butt in a chair.

I'm also going to try and take more pictures. Again, I say that EVERY year, then for some reason my camera stays inside my purse. I figure if I stick it in my pocket, it has a better chance of being used.

Of course, if I actually follow through and become more social, it definitely has a better chance of being used!

This will be the last year I attend as a reader, too. When I registered, I had nothing to promote (well, I still don't), but next year my book will be out there (yikes!) and maybe I can help sell a few copies. You never know!!!

Heck, I'll probably still try to sell a few copies now - I plan on taking a picture of my cover to show people, and I have my business cards. I'm set.

See ya Monday!

Conventions

I think I'm all set for 2012. I've registered (and paid for – ouch) three conventions (or conferences):

Fantasy on the Bayou hosted by the Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal (FF&P) Chapter of RWA. This is their first conference and I belong to this chapter. It's being held in New Orleans. My husband will be driving down with me and we'll spend a couple of extra days to sight-see.

Romantic Times Booklovers Convention (I can't believe they don't have a banner or something I can copy, but I couldn't find anything but this picture of a previous book fair). I enjoyed the RT Convention when it was in Columbus. This year it's in Chicago (in April), so it's drivable by myself. And I already have a roommate from someone I met at the Columbus convention.

Lori Foster Annual Reader & Writer Get Together. This one is local for me – West Chester, OH (just north of Cincinnati). I had lots of fun last year, even though I had no idea what to expect. Now I do, and I'll be more prepared.

Why so many? Because I'm nuts? Truthfully, I am serious about my writing and I just think I should put myself out there and be seen, even if I'm not published yet. Heck, maybe an editor or agent will remember me from one of these events. It also helps me get over some of my shyness – although I doubt that will ever go away. But the more people I meet, the more comfortable I become – especially when I find someone I met at a previous convention!

So, March is in New Orleans, April is in Chicago, and June is in West Chester. Haven't decided on Dragon*Con, although I will most likely NOT go. My vacation is being saved for actual vacation TBD later (go figure!).

Are you planning on going to any conventions this year?
