On Saturday it was “The Lone Ranger.” It had its funny
moments (which I enjoyed) and its lagging moments (movie ran a bit long). When
I saw the teasers, I guess I expected a different film. John Reid (character of
the movie title) was shown as a righteous idiot (which is how Tonto saw him,
too--not that he had it all together, either). A bit of a disappointment for
something I had looked forward to since I saw the first trailer.
On Sunday it was “The Heat.” Let me just say…I liked “The
Lone Ranger” better. I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this film and I was
correct. I like Sandra Bullock, but Melissa McCarthy…not so much. I don’t know
if it’s the writers or her, but her comedy isn’t funny and I doubt I’ll ever
see another movie with her again, regardless of who else is starring in it.
So, two movies, two duds. Figures. I am looking forward to “Red
2” (seen enough previews for it). I certainly hope it doesn’t disappoint me,
because I really enjoyed “Red.”
I did get a lift on Sunday. I saw the list of contestants
for The WRiTE Club (hint, hint).
By the way, WRiTE Club starts today. Whatcha waiting for? Go check it out!
Have any of you seen the commercials for “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”?
It’s coming this fall to ABC. I’m definitely checking that series out.

The Lone Ranger holds little appeal for me as a film. Then again, I scoffed when I heard they were making a film based on a Disney ride, and THAT turned out pretty well.
I thought both movies looked "ok" on the commercials. At least you didn't pay too much to see them! LOL
I can't tell you the last movie I saw in a movie theater. It might have been "Up".
Jeff - I liked Pirates of the Carribbean, because I expected hokiness. I didn't expect that from The Lone Ranger.
Jennifer - Actually, The Heat didn't even look okay to me, but my husband wanted to give it a try (because he likes Sandra Bullock, too). Now he's wishing he hadn't! Haha!
We did a double-feature on Saturday and saw THE LONE RANGER and WHITE HOUSE DOWN. I was disappointed by LR, and pleasantly surprised by WHD.
Thank you for the WRiTE CLUB mention! :)
I was kind of skeptical of both of these. I'd be more inclined to go see Despicable Me 2, even though I haven't seen the first. It seems all Hollywood does anymore is remakes. Good luck in Write Club!
I watched Cabin in the Woods and The Caller on NetFlix. I like The Caller - the woods one, I just watched because I was working in the living room and Thor was in the movie.
Sorry about the duds.
Jennette - Despicable Me 2 looks funny, but I'll probably wait until my son owns it (he has the first and I'll borrow it someday).
Ivy - I liked Cabin in the Woods (a unique take on horror movies and it's Joss Whedon). I had to look up The Caller. I've never heard of that movie. But yeah, about Thor. I saw Red Dawn because he was in it, and that movie was a dud, too!!
DL - Apparently your comment ended up in my SPAM folder!
I'm tempted to see White House Down, but after the last two duds, I'm a little afraid...
I haven't seen Red Dawn. Do you do the NetFlix? Avengers is on there now. Saving it for a weekend when we both have off. Saw it in the movies. Loved it.
We saw "Despicable Me 2." My kids LOVE the minions. (And so do my wife and I.)
Ivy - No, we don't have NetFlix. We've got HBO, Showtime, etc., though.
Michael - Yeah, but there's more to it than that, right? I think I'll have my son bring over the first one this weekend.
I can't wait for RED 2. Red was really funny, hope the second one is as good. :)
We are heading to the Drive in this Thursday for a double feature: World War Z and This is the End. Pretty excited! Hope it doesn't rain! :)
