My Favorite Reads in 2014

I did not reach my goal to read 90 books this year. Came close, though. Only two books short! And I’m reading one of them. And while I could EASILY finish that book in time, I have writing/editing that MUST come first.

Yeah, priorities. They suck, don’t they?

Anyway, here are the books I read in 2014 that I gave 5 stars on Goodreads, in the order I read them (number indicates overall reading order):

1.      "Beautiful Creatures" by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

2.      "Doctor Sleep" by Stephen King

4.      "Blood Reunited" by Amber Belldene

5.      "Beautiful Chaos" by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

7.      "Beautiful Redemption" by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

17.    "Twisted" by Rebecca Zanetti

19.    "The Dragon's Heart" by Eden Ashe

20.    "Playing the Game" by M.Q. Barber

22.    "Crossing the Lines" by M.Q. Barber

26.    "Jingle Bell Rock" by Rie Warren

27.    "Bobbie Faye's Sizzling Heart Breaking Can't Stop Collision With Heat (Bobbie Faye 0.5)" by Tony McGee Causey

29.    "Bobbie Faye's Whacked Out, No Good, Really Sucky, Hot Mess of a Wedding" by Tony McGee Causey

30.    "The King" by J.R. Ward

32.    "How to Seduce a Vampire (Without Really Trying) by Kerrelyn Sparks

36.    "Vampire Most Wanted" by Lynsay Sands

37.    "Healing the Wounds" by M.Q. Barber

38.    "Sixth Grave on the Edge" by Darynda Jones

43.    "Dead Heat" by Allison Brennan

45.    "Viper" by Patricia A. Rasey

46.    "Hawk" by Patricia A. Rasey

50.    "Prince of Shadows" by Tes Hilarie

53.    "Phantom Instinct" by Meg Gardiner

57.    "Undeniably Yours" by Heather Webber

61.    "Hearts in Harmony" by Gemma Brocato

62.    "Exposed to Passion" by Gemma Brocato

64.    "Hearts in Darkness" by Laura Kaye

66.    "Silver Wolf Clan" by Tera Shanley

67.    "Trancehack" by Sonya Clark

68.    "Immortal" by J.R. Ward

70.    "A Winter Wedding" by Gemma Brocato

71.    "Speak No Evil" by Allison Brennan

72.    "See No Evil" by Allison Brennan

73.    "Fear No Evil" by Allison Brennan

75.    "Sick" by Brett Battles

76.    "Take Me, Cowboy" by Jane Porter

77.    "Seventh Grave and No Body" by Darynda Jones

79.    "The Down Home Zombie Blues" by Linnea Sinclair

81.    "Reckless" by Jessi Gage

Forty books out of 88. Not too shabby, considering I read a bunch of new authors this year. I’m not sure I’ll make my goal the same next year, though. I hate not reaching goals. What do you think? Go for 90 again or lower it to 80 (because I don’t plan on reading as many novellas)?

So… you have any plans for tonight? We’ll be heading to Columbus to my friend’s. She’s fixing surf & turf (lobster tail & filet). Usually it’s just 4 of us, but looks to be a larger group this year. I’m taking a card game with us that my son & daughter said would be fun (but not a game they will play with us). It’s called Cards Against Humanity. Ever hear of it? If not, look it up here. J Looks to be a fun night!

Happy New Year and Happy Reading!

My Holiday Table Blog Hop – And Some More Cruise Pics

Maria Zannini wanted to see pictures of holiday tables so she created this blog hop. I thought I would participate (seeing the homework was easy), so here are my two pictures. If you want to see more holiday tables, hop on over to her blog for pictures and/or links to other blogs.

Above, that's my table at Thanksgiving. Remember, I ordered my meal from Bob Evans!

And this is my friend's table at Christmas. She served the food buffet-style (on counter to right). Lots of good food. And yes, it was way better than Bob Evans!!!

Don’t know if you stopped by here yesterday, but I was guest-posting on Delilah Devlin’s blog. Even shared a little excerpt to Ghostly Liaison (which I guess maybe I should include that on my blog or website, huh?). Anyway, here’s the link, in case you want to check it out: http://www.delilahdevlin.com/blog/2014/12/28/stacy-mckitrick-ghosts-real-or-just-stories/

Now for the pictures of the towel creatures I promised on Friday. See…when I tell someone I’ll do something (e.g. download pictures from my iPhone), I tend to do it. It’s when I keep the information to myself that I tend to not do something. Is it that way for you, too? Anyway.. every night when the Steward turned down the bed, he left us a little towel figure. I can figure out what some of them are, but not all.

Day 1 -- Have no idea what he's supposed to be! :)

Day 2 -- A frog

Day 3 -- A monkey (I asked)

Day 4 -- An elephant

Day 5 -- A dinosaur

Day 6 -- Uhhh. A dog? Hugging himself? Hmmm...

Day 7 -- A lobster
As we walked down the aisles to our room, we passed a lot of cleaning crew carts and several had some towel figures on display. The one below caught my eye.

Chickies!!
The next several pictures were taken one morning I went upstairs to get some coffee (and let my hubby sleep). The crew had been busy the night before. Talk about getting lucky. This was the only day it occured, and I didn't usually go upstairs early. Almost every chair around the pool was used. The crew probably had to remove the towel creations, because I don't think anyone wanted to disturb the art work!

So…what plans do you have on this last Monday of 2014? I received Blind Temptation back from my editor, so I’ll be editing. Thank goodness nothing major needs fixing. That’s always a good feeling!

Have a great Monday!

I'm Guest-Posting Today

Yeah, I know, I don't normally post on Sunday, but I'm guest-posting today over at Delilah Devlin's blog here: http://www.delilahdevlin.com/blog/2014/12/28/stacy-mckitrick-ghosts-real-or-just-stories/.

I even included an excerpt from Ghostly Liaison. So... if you're curious, come on over! :)

Some Pictures from My Cruise

I took over 300 pictures on my camera (and some more on my iPhone, which I still have to download), so picking a few to post here was kind of difficult. As much as I'd like to share them all, I don't want to bore you. I hope what I have here will be interesting (and remember, you can enlarge the picture when you click on it).

I thought I would start out by showing what our cabin looked like. We had an inside room (meaning, no windows). This was a first for us and believe it or not, it really wasn't all that bad. Anyway, here's the bed (hmmm... wonder who is sleeping in my bed???). As you can tell, there isn't a lot of space to move around.

Hey look! You can see me in the mirror. We're only there one day and you can tell what a mess we made it. But heck, there isn't really anyway you can store your stuff neatly!

Ahead is the door to the hallway. The bathroom is situated behind the television and mirror (that bright light on the right). Yes, rooms come with a television. Not many channels, though. Most of them are about the cruise!

Here's the inside of the bathroom. Compact, huh? And I thought my shower at home was small. See that picture above the toilet? Well, look at the picture below.

Is this supposed to be an example of how to use the toilet? I mean, what kind of picture is this to put in the bathroom? Crazy! Then my husband asked me the same thing (and I hadn't even said anything about the picture to him!). We definitely think alike, huh?

Here's the sink. I was shocked we got some counter space!

Here's a shot at our first port, St. Martaan. It was the only day we got rain. Our original excursion was cancelled (a walking tour, so probably a good thing not enough people signed up for it) and the shots from the tour we did take weren't all that great.

Here's a shot of St. Kitt from the ship.

We took a tour around the island of St. Kitt. Weather certainly improved.

Still on St. Kit. This shot shows the Atlantic ocean on the left and the Carribbean Sea on the right.

Next day we arrived at San Juan. This is part of the old fort (taken from another part of the old fort).

Street in old San Juan.

Nice panoramic shot of San Juan from the ship.

When we arrived at Grand Turk, I was amazed at how beautiful the water was. Clear, too!

Grand Turk is really flat. And small. We took an ATV tour around the island. Even stopped a couple of times, and it only took 2 hours. Very beautiful beaches, though.

That's all I got for today. Hope you enjoyed them. On Monday, I'll show you the pictures of all the towel creatures I stumbled across on the ship (a lot of them are on the iPhone, which, remember, I still have to download).

So... Did you have a good Christmas? I got this great black & gold Penguins jersey with the number 87 and the name Crosby. Awesome!! Can't wait to wear it to a game.

Wednesday Reads and Merry Christmas

Tomorrow is Christmas! Yay! I hope you all have wonderful plans, whether with family or friends. If you don’t have to cook (like me), you can relax (unless you find cooking is relaxing, then cook!). Sometimes I go to a movie or just watch one on TV (DVD). But this year I’ll be spending Christmas at my friend’s house—eating and playing games. Good times. And tonight is spent at home with the kids. Meat loaf is the meal. Board games (or movies) is the plan after. Whatever we’re in the mood for.

Anyway, this post is rather lengthy since I didn’t post last Wednesday (you know, because I was on a cruise enjoying the sun and warm weather!). Here’s what I read during the past 2 weeks:

forgive and forget by heather ashby
Dec 14: “Forgive and Forget” by Heather Ashby, a military romance. Blurb from Goodreads: There’s something about a man in uniform… but there’s something about a woman in one, too. When Hallie McCabe meets Philip Johnston at a picnic, she is drawn to his integrity. He is a gentleman—and an officer. Aware of the code against fraternization between officers and enlisted, Hallie hides her Navy status, hopeful she and her secret will stay hidden on their enormous aircraft carrier, at least until she can figure out a way for them to sail off into the sunset together. Caught in an emotional firestorm, Hallie faces a future without the man she loves, a career-shattering secret from the past, and the burden of being the one person who can prevent a terrorist attack on the ship she has sworn to protect with her life. Prepare to set sail for the Persian Gulf with a crew of 4,999 sailors and officers—and one terrorist in search of his own kind of Paradise. This is a fairly new genre for me to read (no, not the romance, the military!). Having served in the Army, I’m not always interested in reading about the military, but this story intrigued me. Thank goodness it didn’t disappoint. Well, except for the ending. I would have liked some kind of epilogue to wrap up things a little better. Plus, with an e-book, I thought I had around 15 pages left to read, and since it was already after midnight, saved them for the next day only to discover I had 2 pages left. Ugh! I guess that kind of tells you how the ending was wrapping up, huh? I still thought there was plenty left to read. Other than that, I enjoyed the story a lot.

rude awakening by athena grayson
Dec 16: “Rude Awakening: WinterJacked #1” by Athena Grayson, an urban fantasy with romantic elements. Blurb from Goodreads: Jack Winters lost his perfect, upwardly-mobile life (along with the perfect, upwardly-mobile wife) when it intersected with a pack of fantastical creatures. He’s spent three years determinedly ignoring the Things That Should Not Be, and kept his failures frozen under a thick layer of isolation from the best friends he’s ever had. But when a holiday reunion presents him with the woman who Might Have Been, suddenly the impossible doesn't seem so improbable anymore… Lin Sanada thought she was long over her college crush and the Missed Connections that kept her and Jack Winters “just friends” for nearly twenty years. She’s moved on, and left old dreams behind. But a winter night and a full moon and a little magic have other ideas… To the young, impossible dreams are magic. At forty, they’re called a mid-life crisis. Jack’s got a choice. Keep clinging to the shreds of his old life…or make a new reality. Coincidentally, this is another book set during Christmas that I wasn’t aware of. Ha! For me, this resembled more of a fantasy than an urban fantasy, only because there were too many unknown creatures for me to keep up with. Plus, it seemed to start in the middle of Jack’s problem (of which a little prologue might have helped). However… I really liked Jack and Lin, so they kind of made up for that bit of confusion. If you’re looking for a unique world set inside the real world, give this one a try.

petals and throns by jeffe kennedy
Dec 17: “Petals and Thorns” by Jeffe Kennedy, a historical erotica novella. Blurb from Goodreads: In exchange for her father’s life, Amarantha agrees to marry the dreadful Beast and be his wife for seven days. Though the Beast cannot take Amarantha’s virginity unless she begs him to, he can and does take her in every other way. From the moment they are alone together, the Beast relentlessly strips Amarantha of all her resistance. If Amarantha can resist her cloaked and terrifying husband, she gains his entire fortune and will be allowed to return to her family and a normal life. But the Beast seduces her at every turn, exposing, binding, tormenting, and pleasuring Amarantha until she no longer knows her own deepest desires. Increasingly desperate to break the curse that chains his humanity, the Beast drives Amarantha past every boundary. But her desire for a normal life may jeopardize the love that will save them both. I received this novella free from attending the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention (included in a flash drive of 300 books). Gave me a great opportunity to check out some authors I’d been wanting to check out! Unfortunately… I didn’t care for the male character in this book. The Beast promised not to hurt Amarantha, but did anyway. It just bordered on abuse. I know the book is set in the past and wives were treated differently then, but the beatings still bothered me. However… the ending was a lot better than I expected. While I didn’t care too much for this particular story, I did like the writing and would be willing to read more from Jeffe. So I guess that freebie thing worked, huh?

the billionaire's baby bargain by shelli stevens
Dec 17: “The Billionaire’s Baby Bargain” by Shelli Stevens, an erotic contemporary romance novella. Blurb from Goodreads: Searching for adventure, Chloe doesn’t expect to find it in the dark, sexy man who makes his desire—and his intentions to bed her—blatantly clear. Working at one of Spain’s most exclusive resorts, she soon discovers her new lover isn’t just a guest, but the powerful and ruthless owner. Hotel tycoon Andrés Montero’s reputation as Spain’s most elusive bachelor billionaire is slow to trust. And when Andres believes his relationship with Chloe is born from a more sinister purpose, he ends their affair with the harshness of a business deal gone sour. But the realization that Chloe is carrying his baby brings Andrés back into her life, and there’s nothing he won’t do to protect his unborn child—and claim the woman he still secretly desires. Even if he must resort to blackmail. I liked Andres at first, came to dislike him, then finally tolerated him (not exactly how I want to feel toward the male lead). This was another freebie book for me, and I’ve liked some of Shelli’s other stories, but this one was just okay.

collision course by desiree holt
Dec 20: “Collision Course” by Desiree Holt, an erotic romantic suspense novella. Blurb from Goodreads: He's discovered that his boss, international businessman Charles Bennett, is actually dealing in drugs and illegal arms. Killers are on his trail and Tate Buchanan needs a place to hide and use his hacking skills to get the evidence he needs. He finds it in tiny Connelly, Texas, where he also finds hotter than hot Casey McIntyre. After six years with the F.B.I. and four years in Afghanistan marked by a disastrous love affair, Casey is trying to put both her life and her shattered heart back together. Her instincts tell her that the stranger in the family restaurant has trouble on his back but her common sense tells her to stay as far away from him as possible. Of course, common sense never paid attention to combustible chemistry and it's not long before Casey and T.J. (as he now calls himself) are spending every minute together day and night. Can he find the proof he needs before the killers track him down? And when they do, can Casey use all her skills to protect him and keep him safe? A man-in-jeopardy story for a change, where a kickass woman uses all her skills to protect the man she's come to love. I expected the erotica, but not the romantic suspense, which was a pleasant surprise. This was another freebie I got from RT and was glad to have sampled Ms. Holt’s work. If you’re looking for a lot of sex with your romantic suspense, you won’t be disappointed.

dark forest by emma weylinDec 21:Dark Forest” by Emma Weylin, a paranormal erotica novella. Blurb from Goodreads: Evil is stalking the citizens of Dark Forest. Now it’s up to a red-hooded woman and the werewolf determined to make her his mate to track down the killer before he strikes again. Dark Forest is author Emma Weylin’s sexy retelling of a classic fairy tale. Sometimes, even the big bad wolf can be oh-so-good! Rose Merrin is attracted to the one man in Dark Forest suspected of murder. Self-preservation and the townsfolk’s eagle eyes keep her from knowing his touch, even when everything about him calls to her. But when another murder shocks Dark Forest, and a girl who could be her sister disappears, her life becomes dependent on the one man no one trusts. Aiden Hyde holds a dark secret. Proving his innocence would reveal his werewolf heritage. When a new werewolf in town sets his sights on Rose, he has no choice but to step in and protect his mate—whether she knows it or not. Interesting story but WAY too short (only 80 pages long). I like more meat to the stories I read. I'll give her novel a chance, though.

a different shade of blue by hildie mcqueen
Dec 22: “A Different Shade of Blue” by Hildie McQueen, a historical romance novella. Blurb from Goodreads: When Nora Banks hides in a hayloft to find a moment of peace, she doesn't expect the man she's loved from afar for years to climb up and join her, or that both their fathers find them in such a compromising situation. The last thing Grayson Cole wants is to be attached to the only woman that's affected him since his late wife. Now that everyone expects him to marry her, can he risk that kind of pain again? Neither Nora nor Grayson plan to go through with the marriage, not when their pasts are obstacles too great to overcome. But when the tides turn and those that demanded the wedding now try to pull them apart, they decide to fight it. After reading all those eroticas, this was a nice breath of fresh air—haha! This is another freebie from RT from an author I’ve sat beside at a couple of book signings (because we were seated alphabetically), so I thought it was time I read her work. I wasn’t disappointed. This was a fun read.

One thing I learned from all this reading (which got me within 3 books of my yearly goal—yay!), is I’m REALLY not fond of novellas. Sure, they helped with the book count and introduced me to some authors I hadn’t read before, but most of them were so thin. I want more to my reading. Next year I’ll lower my reading goal and concentrate on reading actual BOOKS!

Okay, sorry this post is super long! I promise, pictures of the cruise on Friday (which could also become a long post—but easier on the eyeballs, right?).

Have a Merry, Merry Christmas!! Got any traditions you’re looking forward to? Or maybe NOT looking forward to?

Happy Reading!

Newsletter and Other News

My next newsletter is scheduled to go out on December 22nd. If you want to be one of the first to see the cover to Blind Temptation, sign up using the form in the side bar or here: http://eepurl.com/-Auwz. The cover is awesome, I swear! Plus, I included a Christmas-themed short story (non-paranormal, even). The very one I included in my Christmas letter this year!

Now, I only said all that first because my blog is shared with my Amazon & Goodreads pages, and since it'll be awhile before I post anything, I'd like that to be noticed first and seen the longest. And why will it be awhile before I post again? Because I'll be someplace I won't be able to post.

Yep. I’m headed for another cruise. This one is going places I’ve never been before: St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Grand Turk, and San Juan, PR (Okay, I’ve been to San Juan before—toured the Bacardi factory—but it was at night and I couldn’t see anything!). I’m really looking forward to this trip. We even have excursions booked for 3 of the 4 islands. Fun, fun, fun!

Got a LONG drive ahead of us today, though (because we’re cheap and don’t really like to fly), and a bit more tomorrow before we board our ship, so I doubt I get on line tonight to comment. Oh, I do have my smart phone, but I haven’t figured out how to comment on a blog on that thing yet (haven’t needed to).

You all have fun shopping and wrapping and I’ll see you again on the 24th, which I’m sure will be a lengthy post of what I read. Or maybe not. I DO want to write. Just don’t expect pictures on that day. I’m sure I’ll take some, but I probably won’t post them until after Christmas.

Don't miss me too much! Okay, you can miss me. Please miss me! J

Oh, and you have my permission to share this post so I can get some more subscribers for my newsletter. You can tell them how awesome I am. J

Tootles!!

Wednesday Reads

Looks like I read a lot, but I didn’t. Not really. Must be the timing. Here’s what I read during the week:

the down home zombie blues
Dec 4: “The Down Home Zombie Blues” by Linnea Sinclair, a sci-fi romance. Blurb from Goodreads: A dangerously sexy space commander and an irresistibly earthy Florida police detective pair up to save the civilized galaxy . . . but can they save themselves from each other? Bahia Vista homicide detective Theo Petrakos thought he’d seen it all. Then a mummified corpse and a room full of futuristic hardware sends Guardian Force commander Jorie Mikkalah into his life. Before the night’s through, he’s become her unofficial partner—and official prisoner—in a race to save the earth. And that’s only the start of his troubles. Jorie’s mission is to stop a deadly infestation of biomechanical organisms from using Earth as its breeding ground. If she succeeds, she could save a world and win a captaincy. But she’ll need Theo’s help, even if their unlikely partnership does threaten to set off an intergalactic incident. Because if she fails, she’ll lose not just a planet and a promotion, but a man who’s become far more important to her than she cares to admit. I got this book free from the RT Convention. They gave away a flash drive containing something like 300 books and this was one of several that interested me, mainly because I enjoyed Sinclair’s Dock Five Universe series. Well, this book is way better. Don’t let the “zombie” name fool you (like it did me). They’re called zombies, but are actually alien creatures. Lots of action in this book. Good romance, too. And it’s set during Christmas (couldn’t have planned THAT any better!). I’m not a huge sci-fi reader, but could come to love the genre with books like this.

ho ho honeybunDec 5: “Ho Ho Honeybun” by Sam Cheever, a novella of the Honeybun Fever series. Blurb from Goodreads: Dolfe Honeybun broke up with Blaise Runa because her party girl ways were driving him to distraction. Unfortunately, out of sight does NOT mean out of mind. And when his favorite party girl sees something she shouldn’t and finds herself being chased by a cold blooded killer… reason shuts down and Dolfe’s heart takes over. If only he can get to her in time! This was an impulse buy. I read an excerpt, saw the Santa hat on the cover and thought, why not? I needed a short book to help me reach my goal of 90 books read (which, I’m sad to say, I will probably NOT reach this year). While this novella is part of a series I’ve never read before, I didn’t need to—I was never lost in that regard. A lot of action happens in this book, but not as much sex as I assumed (even then, it wasn’t exactly at a good time in the story). Once I got past the farcical names (e.g. Honeybun and Whatsnoggin), I became wrapped up in the story and I might be intrigued to read the rest of the series if I didn’t already have so many other series/authors/books to read.

Dec 9: “Reckless” by Jessi Gage, a paranormal romance. Blurb from Goodreads: Divorced construction worker Derek has anger management issues. Acting rashly on the freeway, he causes an accident. His truck escapes unscathed, but he can’t say the same for his conscience. Visions of the wreck haunt his dreams, but they’re always followed by the sweet caresses and soothing words of a beautiful woman who calls to everything male in him. Cami assumes she is dead. With no memory of her past, all she knows is endless fog and the occasional visit to a darkened bedroom where she comforts a man battling nightmares. When she wakes in a hospital bed and regains her memory, she assumes the ruggedly-handsome Derek was no more than a figment of her concussed mind. As Cami recovers, she learns that Derek is not only real but also the driver charged with causing her accident. She should be furious with him, but their inexplicable nights together showed her a tender side beneath his rough exterior. Will she let one reckless mistake drive them apart, or will forgiveness have the right of way? A different kind of paranormal romance (okay, maybe supernatural, then?) and I enjoyed it very much. Nothing better than reading a book that captures your attention. Unless, you have work to do. Hmmm… Oh well. **shrugs**

So… Do you like reading holiday stories during the holidays? Or does it even matter to you? It doesn’t matter so much to me, but it’s nice when I do. Kind of puts me in the spirit, I guess.

Happy Reading!

It Was a Good Season

Unfortunately, it didn’t end with a win. Wayne High School became the runner-up in the Ohio HS Division I Championship game. I really thought they could win this year. It’s not easy beating those private schools (Lakewood St. Edward won), but we beat last year’s champion (yep, private) just to get to this year’s game. It wasn’t meant to be, I guess. We can hope for next year, but so many are graduating this year. You never know, though.

However… Did you see??? The Ohio State Buckeyes were ranked #4!!! I swear, I screamed when I saw the results. I didn’t think they’d make it. Didn’t think they’d get the votes. Surprise!! They will play in the Sugar Bowl against #1 Alabama. Let’s go Bucks!

See, it doesn’t take much to get me excited again.

I would show you the pictures I took at the game, but my connection to the Internet is funky at best at the time of this posting and it was taking FOR-EV-ER to bring up a photo. I'd blame it on my computer, except my husband was having the same difficulty. Anyway, you aren't missing much. It was freezing (okay, 39 degrees, but close enough!!) and I only took four pictures (all before the game started).

So…what are your plans for this week? I want to write and break through this wall I apparently built.

**CRACK**

**POW**

Yeah, I’m ready!

Have a great Monday!

Pictures of my Accomplishments

Whew.

I was busy yesterday. All because I was avoiding decorating the tree. But I did decorate. Here's the proof:

I took pictures of both sides. Can you see the Steelers ornaments?

But before I tackled trimming the tree, I paid the bills and then decided to clean out my file drawer. Man, I had some statements that went back to 1998! They're all in the basket for the shredder (which is another project ahead of me, but ain't happening anytime soon) and my drawer is much roomier (I couldn't even close it before).

See.. there are some things I will clean to avoid. I would have written, but then I NEVER would have gotten the tree decorated.

And if I was following my Subject Post, there would be a picture of my shredding pile (or even my file drawer), but, uh... no. Some things are not meant to be shared!

On Wednesday night the hubby and I moved our new chairs into the family room. Right now they are side by side, but only because we don't know what to do about the vent (or if my husband wants his chair over it). The plan was to put a table between the two chairs (a table we still have to purchase) so there's a place for the remotes and Kleenex, but that pesky vent is kind of killing that plan. We'll see.

Just ignore the mess on the table.
We have a few laptops, that's all. :)

Anyway, aren't the chairs pretty? I'm not used to sitting so high and the chairs aren't any higher than the couch was. Guess that tells you what state our couch was in, huh?

I don't know if she reads my blog, but Happy Birthday, Mary! Mary is our dear friend who loves to cook for us (and we love to eat her cooking). But tonight we'll be meeting her at a restaurant to celebrate her birthday.

We have the big game to go to tomorrow (Wayne plays in the State Championship game). I'm so excited. It's a day game this time (3:30pm), so hopefully it won't be as cold. Well, it won't FEEL as cold if the sun is shining, so I guess I hope the sun is shining! It's supposed to rain in the morning, so we'll see.

So... What are you excited about? And "Christmas" is a valid answer!

Have a great weekend!

No Wednesday Reads, but My Sunny Vampire is FREE

I would LOVE to say I finished my current reading project—because that book is, like, SUPER good—but I’m behaving and concentrating on my writing instead, so no books to report this week.

my sunny vampire by stacy mckitrick
I noticed on Monday that the digital version of My Sunny Vampire is FREE on Amazon, B&N, and Kobo, so if you don’t have a copy yet, now would be a good time to get it because it won’t be any cheaper (duh!). Links are located on the book tab above.

I didn’t know MSV was going to be free and I don’t know how long the sale will last. The book is currently ranked in the 50s (on Amazon) for free downloads in the paranormal romance category. Not too shabby, I guess. I hope it generates sales for Bite Me (or even more reviews for MSV—sadly, it lacks many of those), but only time will tell.

Out of all the non-writing projects I had planned for Monday, I completed all but decorating the Christmas tree. It’s assembled, so I’m not a total slouch. And I would decorate it today except our old couch will be removed (finally—yay) and I won’t be able to put the chairs in the family room by myself (yeah, I go to the gym, but I’m not THAT strong). So, it’s best to leave the tree bare for now. Less chance of breaking an ornament. Looks like I’ll be decorating tomorrow.

In the meantime, I’m writing on the breakfast table. Something I don’t normally do. If I end up being more productive there, I might have to re-think my writing process.

Yesterday I managed to finally add some words to Ghostly Interlude. I’d been nervous getting back to it since I hadn’t touched it in a month. Nervous for no reason, it seemed. It felt good to write. Hope to get even more words added today. I’ve decided to kind of skim over the difficult scenes and write on. And when I say difficult, I mean I have a slight IDEA of what the scene should entail, but I’m still trying to figure out my character’s back story, so until I get a firm grasp on that, the scene is only a note. Hopefully, I don’t get myself into a mess doing this, but it’s better than staring at a blank page. Plus, I want to write. Writing always helps me figure out my characters, especially when they’re talking on the page.

So… How’s your week going so far? Good, I hope!

We’re Going to State!

That’s right! I’m finally getting my chance to see the Horseshoe! Wayne won the Division I, Region 2 final and will be in Columbus to play the State Championship game this Saturday. Whoo hoo!

Last Saturday’s game was a nail biter, that’s for sure. Well… I would have bitten my nails if I weren’t wearing gloves. Lead changed hands several times during the game and with 5 minutes left we were tied. Lucky for us, we scored with less than 2 minutes left. Even luckier, we intercepted a pass (intended for the end zone) with 25 seconds left.

This is Wayne’s third trip to State. We’re hoping three time’s the charm! Let’s go Wayne!!

* * * *

I sent Blind Temptation to my editor on Friday, so I’m all set to get back into Ghostly Interlude. But first…

I’ll be sending out Christmas cards today (decided on the short story) and wrapping/shipping presents to my parents. Wanna mail those things early, while I can do it cheaper! Last year I was stupid; won’t do that again. After that, I’ll put up the tree (after I move the table and clean the area). Then tonight, I’ll get someone (son/husband?) to help bring up the decorations from the basement (the box is too big for me to carry by myself).

That tree WILL be decorated tonight. And once it is, I can stop stressing about the holiday and settle in to write.

Except…we have these two chairs we bought (to replace our couch in the family room) that need to be unwrapped and assembled (well, the legs need to be added—this is what happens when you refuse to pay the $99 delivery fee). The chairs are currently taking up space in the living room (good thing we don’t use that room all that often) until we get the couch removed (which we will donate to a charity).

I’m hoping that doesn’t take long. And then I’m hoping it doesn’t take long to get used to writing in the new chair. But the chair will be mine. Mine, mine, mine!

I’ll be sure to post pictures after it all happens (tree AND chairs).

So… 35 years ago today I said “I do.” Do we look young or what?

Have a great Monday!

Movie Day!

Our family has a tradition on the Friday after Thanksgiving. And no, it’s not shopping for all those Black Friday deals. Since 1990 we’ve designated Black Friday as Movie Day.

And the movie that won the honor this year is…. Penguins of Madagascar.

My daughter is to blame for picking this flick and no one could tell her no. It looks cute, and funny, and I love cute & funny. Besides, they're PENGUINS! And those penguins were the best part of Madagascar. Movie time today is 11am (EST). I’ll let you know in the comments how it was.

We might have picked The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I, but my daughter went and saw it last Saturday, so my husband, our son, and I saw it on Tuesday (discount Tuesday!!). Good movie. The moviemakers have done a good job with this series. I’m almost shocked! I loved the books and you know how it is when books are adapted to the screen. They usually bomb, right?

So…what movies have you seen lately? And did you brave the crowds today?
