I’m pretty sure I mentioned being one of 10 sponsors for a Kindle we're giving away. If I haven’t, bad me! Anyway, check it out. The winner is drawn on the 22nd, so you still have time to enter. It’s on Facebook and you can enter HERE.
The weather has been a bit on the chilly side here, lately.
Woke up to negative temps yesterday which caused a lot of schools to close. I
get why city schools close, but colleges? It’s not like the students are
walking to school or outside waiting for a bus. Plus, I consider college
students ADULTS. Hello! You won’t be excused from work for negative temps. Oh,
unless you’re a teacher at the college. Then I guess you do.
Sometimes I think the people around here are wimps. It’s Ohio . It’s gonna get
cold in the winter. Gripe all you want, but deal with it.
Okay, rant over. Whew. Hadn’t had one of those in awhile.
Tomorrow is my sweetie’s birthday. We’re going to our friend’s
house to celebrate. Then on Sunday we’ll use the coupon he received for a free
dinner at BD’s Mongolian Grill (he loves that place).
So… What are your plans for the weekend? Anything good?
Have a Happy Friday!!
Stacy

Good point about colleges. Nobody ever gave me a day off for freezing weather, especially when I lived up north.
In Texas, people stay home if the roads are icy, but that's mostly because there's not enough sand/salt to treat the overpasses. Lots of wrecks.
Fortunately, it rarely gets icy here.
I have to say, I've never tried Mongolian food--I hope it's good!
I went to college in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We didn't have cold weather days, or even snow days, we just bundled up and walked to class.
Happy Birthday to your Sweetie! I hope he has a great day and an awesome dinner. =o)
No plans here. Staying in, staying warm, trying to avoid driving on the icy roads. That sort of thing.
Maria - I've driven through parts of Texas when it got icy. That wasn't fun! But getting a flat tire in all that could have been the reason. I certainly wasn't dressed for the weather (because I wasn't expecting it to get that cold).
Jeff - Not sure it's really Mongolian food. Mostly meat and vegetables they cook on a grill in front of you. Here's the website, in case you were interested: http://www.gomongo.com/
Beth - Mmmm... Staying in and staying warm. Sounds like a good plan to me!
Yeah, I don't see why Wright State and Sinclair would close due to cold. Gotta love those tunnels! But the students at UD, OSU and Miami do a LOT of walking--I so don't envy them! People here are not used to this kind of cold. I will be glad when it's gone!
Yep, I feel the same way about the winter.
Happy Birthday to your Honey Bunny. Hope you guys have a great time.
Not sure what the plans are this weekend. I would very much like to gut part of my kitchen area that isn't working for me. But a trip to Barnes would be nice, too.
Happy Weekend & Boogie Boogie.
Jennette - Clark State closed, too, and they don't even really HAVE a campus. I've lived here over 20 years and I remember plenty of winters where it got cold like this (one year--95? 96?--my car actually FROZE and I had to have it towed home). Yeah, I hate the cold, but it kind of comes with the state. :)
Ivy - Somehow I think gutting your kitchen would be fun for you. Am I wrong? Boogie Boogie back atcha!
You're correct. It's a puzzle to me and I like putting it back together. But I have this one flippin' area that's driving me bat crap crazy. Whoever designed this kitchen, never cooked in one.
Ivy - I'm guessing that's the case in MOST kitchens built. :)
I particularly worry about the high school kids in the extreme cold. I found out this year that the reason so many of them only wear hoodies to school in the winter is, unless the kid is really small, the lockers aren't big enough to stuff a winter coat into and they have no other place to put them. I guess the same may be true of some college students.
My dream kitchen is a prep kitchen. NOTHING like what's seen in Better Homes & Gardens, but rather a real prep kitchen, similar to the ones I've worked in.
Ah .. to dream.
Linda - I can understand if we lived in an area that never saw snow or freezing temps, but we're in Ohio. It will get cold. College students should be prepared, because unless they get a job down south, they'll certainly be required to report to work during cold snaps.
Ivy - Hey, sometimes dreams come true! :)
My plans are book reading :) Not cold here, but I am being lazy.
Donna - I'm quite lazy on many weekends. It's fun! Enjoy your book. :)
When I drove to work yesterday, my car's thermometer showed -19.
Plus, at the risk of sounding like one of those "uphill both way" rants, when I was a kid, they never canceled school because of cold. Snow, sure. But cold... never!
Michael - Yep, I can see snow canceling stuff. Gotta clear the roads and parking lots. In fact, snow has cancelled our plans today. Bummer! :(
