Reading Update and Eating Out

Have you gone back to a restaurant yet? Actually sat down, ordered, and ate there? We haven’t. I was going to wait and see what the numbers were like after they’ve been open for a few weeks, but what with all the protesting and people not wearing masks, I fear those numbers will be completely skewed now. And not in a good way.

So I guess I’ll just wait a little longer.

Here’s what I read since my last update:

Book #23

Dates read: May 29-June 7
Title: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Year of publication: 2020
Author: Suzanne Collins
Genre: Fantasy
Series: Hunger Games #0
# of Pages: 517
Paper or plastic: Hardback
How obtained: Purchased
Blurb from Book:. It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the tenth annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to outcharm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute.
The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined—every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute…and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.
My thoughts: I wasn’t sure what this book was going to be about when it was released, but since it had to do with the Hunger Games, I was all in to read it. It was an interesting story. There wasn’t much suspense for the character, since we all know who he is in the other books, but I became curious to see how he survived. If you enjoyed reading The Hunger Games, you will most likely enjoy this, too.

Happy Reading!

We went out two weeks ago and there was almost no one there. People are still cautious. But it was awesome just to get out for a meal.

Alex - I bet it was awesome. We went for a drive to an ice cream stand and it was wonderful (we ate the ice cream in our car). I feel for the wait staff, though. They wear masks to protect the customers, but a lot of customers don't seem to want to wear a mask to protect the staff. I understand you can't wear the mask when you're eating, but you certainly can when you're giving your order.

That sucks that you don't feel safe going out to eat, and I can't blame you. We started going out over a month ago, but we aren't high risk, and our county has had a fraction of the Covid cases your area has seen. I went shopping for the first time in months last weekend, and most people weren't wearing masks except in stores that required it. I think people here have a hard time seeing it as real, since so few have been diagnosed.

Jennette - It's like "over 100,000 dead" isn't real enough for some people, I guess. And the way people are relaxing over this have now scientists estimating 1000-2000 people can die a WEEK until a vaccine is created. I pray that's way over-estimated, but the numbers have never really gone down. They've just been flat and now with businesses opening up, I expect them to go up. But otherwise, today is an absolutely GORGEOUS day and I'm so glad I was able to go out and take a walk and enjoy it. I hope this weather lasts awhile.
