First off: Happy Star Wars Day. May the 4th be with you!
Yes, I’m finally home. Was supposed to get home at night on the 2nd, but because of a travel day from hell, didn’t get home until the afternoon of the 3rd. Had a good (and needed) night’s sleep last night and am almost back to normal.
Almost.
Had to reschedule the medical appointments from Wednesday to Thursday (around my scheduled treatment at that!), and then get some shopping done (not much food in the house), so I’ve been quite busy today.
Here’s what I read since my last update:

Blurb from Goodreads: He was more than just a man...
Dr. Elizabeth Parker didn't like wild, dangerous men...yet she still found herself falling for sexy Navy SEAL Sawyer Cage. He was her exact opposite--a man she should definitely stay away from, a man who lived for the thrill of danger...but he was also the man she found herself wanting more than any other.
But their secret relationship ended in heartbreak when Sawyer was killed on a mission. Grieving for him, the last thing Elizabeth ever expected was to find Sawyer listed as a test subject for the top secret government project she was heading--a project called Lazarus.
For years, Elizabeth had worked feverishly to unlock the secrets of life and death, and with her Lazarus formula, she finally thought she'd made a breakthrough. Only she never expected to use Lazarus on her lover.
But the choice is taken out of Elizabeth's hands...
Sawyer is given the Lazarus formula, and he's transported to a remote government facility. At that facility, Sawyer wakes once more, only he's not the same man. He's stronger, he's faster, his reflexes and his senses are ten times better than an average man's. The government calls Sawyer a super soldier... Elizabeth still calls him...hers.
Unfortunately, Sawyer has no memory of his life before Lazarus. All he knows is that something about the sexy doctor awakes a primal response in him. He wants her, and he'll do anything to possess her. Soul-deep, he feels that she was meant to be his.
Death waits in the darkness.
But something is wrong inside the Lazarus facility. The test subjects are holding back secrets, and danger seems to lurk in the air. The Lazarus subjects are super-human now, and some of those subjects have a very, very dark side. Twisted cravings drive them to the very edge of sanity. Can Sawyer keep Elizabeth safe from the madness around them...or will the growing darkness consume them both?
My thoughts: This book was interesting. Paranormal or not paranormal? Don’t know. Sci-Fi or not Sci-Fi? Can’t really tell. But it was suspenseful, and there is a romance, so I’ll leave it at that. I’ll probably get the next book in the series (if I get organized and go find it to put in my wish-list that is).
Book 24
Dates read: May 1-4, 2023
Title: Dark Water
Year of publication: 2002
Author: Sharon Sala
Genre: Romantic suspense
Series: N/A
# of Pages: 199
Paper or plastic: Nook book
How obtained: Got it free for my B&N membership
Blurb from Goodreads: Frank Whitman’s name was reviled in the tiny village of Marmet, Maine, after he stole a fortune from the local bank and skipped town on his wife and daughter Sarah. They were left behind to deal with years of shame and torment around the scandal. Now his body has been found at the bottom of Flagstaff Lake—throwing doubt on all that Sarah thought she knew. Has her father been innocent this entire time?
Sarah’s new obsession is uncovering the true thief and killer—which is making some people nervous. What she finds will make her the next target. But her childhood crush, Tony DeMarco, comes out of the woodworks acting desperate to keep her safe. Is this the beginning of a rekindled love? Or does Tony have something to hide?
My thoughts: This author is popular. She has LOTS of books out there. This must have been one of her earlier ones and it’s written in a way I’m not fond of anymore: omniscient. Actually, it’s more just like a lot of head-hopping. And retelling. I’m shown what happens to a character, then that character tells another character what happened. Do I need to read it twice (sometimes three times)? Don’t think I’ll read another book of hers.
I read 12 books in April! And… I reached my goal of 24 for the year. I am shocked. And happy. I really didn’t think I’d reach that goal, but then I didn’t consider the long cruises being taken this year. Still have another in October!
Happy Reading!
Stacy
