Movies and Bicycling

On Saturday, the whole family went to the theatre to see “Red 2.” I have to say, this movie was FUNNY! So much better than the previous two we’d seen recently (“Lone Ranger” and “The Heat”). But my husband made this remark: How is this any more realistic than “Sharknado”?

Now, have any of you watched “Sharknado”? It was aired on SyFy and my daughter wanted us to record it. We caught maybe five minutes of it toward the end and laughed at how BAD the movie was. Yeah, it’s supposed to be bad, it’s on SyFy (as my daughter put it). Definitely not realistic. But what made “Red 2” more realistic (and it’s not realistic, not even close) is the acting (and probably the writing, too). I laughed, but not because it was BAD, because it was FUNNY. Big difference.

Anyway, if you saw “Red” and loved it, you’ll love “Red 2,” too.

On Sunday, the husband and I bought ourselves new bicycles and then promptly went bike riding. TEN miles! I out-biked my husband, even. I guess lifting weights outdoes walking (in which he usually walks 10-14 miles at a time). I had a blast and look forward to going out again. I told him he would have to set the pace as to how far we travel. I could have gone farther than 10 miles. Sure makes me feel good about my exercise routine, even it I’m not losing weight (which I blame on my birthday celebrations and the fact I love to eat).

The bikes are currently in the car, but the next trip we take, I’ll take my camera and snap some photos. I like posting photos on my blog. Makes it more interesting, doesn’t it?

My washer gets fixed on Tuesday! Yay! But…I have to call the plumber again since the shower is still leaking. Boo! Dang, I was really hoping I wouldn’t have to do that.

BITE ME, I’M YOURS is with my editor. Yeah, I finally got around to submitting it. Should know something in a few weeks (because she’s on vacation right now and won’t get to it until she returns -- figures!). But it’s out there, which is good. I can now concentrate on Book 6 (in between washer repairmen and plumbers - ugh).

So, when’s the last time you rode a bike? Before Sunday, it was…so many years ago I can’t remember! Argh!

It's been years since I rode a bike. I've resisted Sharknado, and have no idea what Red or Red 2 are about. Congrats on getting your book to your editor!

We're looking forward to seeing Red 2.

Re: bikes
We were diehard cyclists when we lived up north. (We used to take 100 mile jaunts! Greg could ride twice that, but 100 miles was my absolute limit.)

But since we moved to the country, we eventually gave it up. It's just too hot here most of the year and most of the roads are gravel.

Jeff - Keep resisting Sharknado. You'll be better off. :)

Maria - It's nice that we have this bike path/walking trail along the Great Miami River. It goes all the way from Dayton up to Piqua (I believe - could be longer). Riding on the roads would be tough around here, since there usually isn't any room for a bike.

I haven't ridden a bike since college - twenty (mumblemumble) years ago. Wouldn't mind trying it again, though. Good luck with Bite Me!

Jennette - I wasn't sure I was going to like biking (my old bike wasn't all that fun to ride) and hesitated buying a new one, but glad I did. I'm not even feeling it today (making me doubly glad I exercise!).

I had never even heard of "Red." But since it has Bruce Willis, I'm sure I will.

Did I go bike riding this year...

I can't remember. Of course, when I do, there is one young'un in the seat on the back, and one in the trailer behind. I joke that if I ever could find the time to ride 3 - 4 days a week, my legs would get so huge I could enter and win the Tour de France.

Michael - I remember when rode my bike with my son on the back. Yeah, that only happened once! :)

I loved RED 2. I think the point isn't whether it's realistic but whether it's believable. Or maybe go one more step and say you want it to be believable. The actors do such a great job, that I was more than willing to suspend my disbelieve and enjoy the story. Those "flying" sharks? Not so much.

LD - Good point. "Red 2" WAS more believable than "Sharknado." Heck, so was "Men in Black" and "Independence Day" and those were about aliens! Was it the actors or the writing or the combination of both? Hmmm...

Glad Red 2 is good, really looking forward to seeing it.

I love my bike so much and ride as often as I can. I am so happy you are cycling - it is such a great feeling. 10 miles is amazing! Do you have trails near you? Do you ride on the road? Hope you get lots of rides in this summer! Enjoy!

Jen - The trails are about five miles away. I'd ride my bike TO them, but I'm afraid I'd get run over! The road to them is rather narrow and hilly - no room for bikes.
