What happens when you renew a Marriott Visa for a small fee? You get to choose any hotel (up to a class 5) to spend a night at. Last year we spent that night in Pittsburgh and attended a Steelers game. This year we spent that night in Cleveland and attended an Indians game. Both trips were great, but I think
In Pittsburgh
we stayed at the Residence Inn. It’s a nice place and right across the street
from PNC Park and a couple of blocks from Heinz
Field. No complaints whatsoever. In fact, I’d go back (as long as I didn’t pay
full price—that place is way too expensive otherwise).
In Cleveland ,
we stayed the Renaissance Hotel, a short walk from Progressive Field (formerly
Jacob’s Field). Apparently, they’re a bit higher on the fancy scale than
Residence Inn. When we got there and they saw my hubby is a Gold member of
Marriott, they upgraded our room (to the 12th floor), gave us free valet
parking, and gave us a free breakfast in the restaurant Sunday morning (which
made me feel like we were back on a cruise). We didn’t get anything like that
in Pittsburgh
(well, except for the breakfast, but then EVERYONE got a free breakfast
there!).
Have to say, I can see how people could get used to
treatment like that. So glad I didn’t have to pay for it!
Anyway, here are some pictures of the room I took.
You can tell the room really isn't all that big, huh? A desk and dresser are on the other end. |
If this is the view for an upgraded room, I'd hate to see what we would have gotten! |
Can anyone tell me why the toilet is angled? I thought that was the strangest thing! |
For dinner, we ate at the Tilted Kilt. It looked interesting
and wasn’t far from the baseball field. The place was really cool. I ordered
the shepard’s pie and I have to say, it was the best I’ve ever had. Okay, so
the only other place I’ve ever had it was at the Cheesecake Factory, which is
really good, but nothing compared to the Tilted Kilt. I would go back to the
Tilted Kilt for that dish alone! Yum!!
This is inside the Tilted Kilt. Don't you love that ship? |
There were a couple of these suits (that I found) inside the Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery. |
Our seats at the Indians game were decent. Except for the sun. I almost brought my hat and really wished I had. It would have come in handy.
Progressive Field from our seats |
See... I'm not the only one the sun bothered! |
We might be a bit high, but had a good advantage to watch the game. |
That tower was like right next door to the Renaissance Hotel. It changed colors throughout the night. |
The fireworks after the game was a plesant surprise. Glad I was able to get a decent photo! |
The Indians ended up losing, but they made it interesting (10 innings). All in all, a wonderful experience. I look forward to making the trip again.
So… Have you ever gotten more than you expected?
Hope your Monday isn’t sucky!! J

That room looks like it was tacked on as an afterthought! Maybe my wife designed the bathroom--she has a thing about angles. Glad you had a good trip!
glad u enjoyed your visit.
Always good to carry a camera :)
The nicest thing that ever happened to me was on a flight back from Italy. There was room in First Class so the flight attendant moved me up front. Best. Flight. Ever.
Glad you had a good time. Welcome back!
Jeff - Someone liked angles. That, or they didn't think there was enough room on either side if facing forward. Didn't seem that way to me. In fact, anyone with long legs would have hit the tub! :)
Mac - Yep, it was good to carry a camera. Of course, it was even better to use it. Glad I remembered to do that this time. :)
Maria - I love surprise upgrades! When they upgraded our room, I asked my husband, "They do know we got the room for free, right?" :)
Hey Stacy,
It looks like you had a great trip. I love to go to watch the Cubs even though they loose all the time. It's like one big party there.
My niece works at the Tilted Kilt here near Chicago but I've never eaten there. I have heard it's pretty good.
I love seeing all your trip photos. It's like I get to visit but not pay the price. :)
Bonnie - The Tilted Kilt is a franchise? I had to look it up, and sure enough it's...EVERYWHERE! And here I thought Cleveland had something unique. Guess I thought wrong there! I'm heartbroken. Well, almost. Seems there's one in Columbus, so at least I won't have to go so far the next time! Haha! :) Glad you enjoy the photos. I do my best (with what little I have -- camera AND brains!).
Pictures! Very cool.
Glad you liked them, Ivy! :)
