July? Not Even Close

First off, let me say this: that Penguins game last night SUCKED! Yeah, JeffO, I know YOU enjoyed it. Daughter and I did NOT. Blech.

I don’t know what the heck happened to our team, but that sure wasn’t them last night. I hope they get over whatever is ailing them SOON.

Remember when I said we were having a house built and should be closing in July? Well…

Hubby and I met with the builders on Tuesday to go over the plans and stuff. The project manager mentioned us having to be at certain meetings during the construction, like the pre-drywall phase, which was the most important one.

Now, we’ll be in California May 9-16 and I was afraid that meeting might conflict so I asked when to expect that. He said about six weeks after they started. I asked when they were going to start. He said he’d get to that.

And he said that because he’d learned in the past that once he mentioned a date, the customer only fixated on that and didn’t pay attention to the rest of the meeting. Okay, I could understand that. Sort of.

He finished going over the checklist. After he answered our questions, he then told us that he wanted to start work on the house on Wednesday, but with the rain coming on Thursday, he was postponing it until Monday.

I’m thinking, great, the meeting won’t conflict with our trip. Then Hubby asked when they expected to be done.

The answer? May 9th! The day we’re leaving on our trip!

What happened to July?

I mean, we’re sort of happy it will be finished earlier than planned. Means we might actually get moved in before we leave for our Alaskan cruise (instead of after it). But man, May is not even in the ballpark to July. Talk about FAST.

It took almost a year for the builders to build our current house. But then they were HORRIBLE. Ryan Homes is so much more…organized!

So, I don’t know if we’ll be closing on the house before or after our California trip, but we’ll definitely have time to move before we leave on our Alaskan cruise. I can’t wait! I’m ready to get out of this house. Although, I’m not really looking forward to the actual move. I mean, who does?

It’s times like these I wish I could be like Samantha Stevens and just wiggle my nose and it would all be done.

So… Got any plans this weekend? Ours looks pretty quiet. We might want to start thinking about getting rid of some stuff, though. Because it sure isn’t all going over to the new house.

Happy Friday!

Stacy

Builders finishing way ahead of schedule - is it a sign of the apocalypse?
Penguins did suck. And I must be tired - I read Jello the first time...

I am just thankful that, on a night where our goalie was not at his best, your goalies were a lot worse. Looking at the way the Metro division has been going this year, a few more games like that and the Pens will be out of the playoff picture--it's crazy over there this year.

I heard a story recently that airlines had changed their schedules, pushing scheduled arrival times fifteen or thirty minutes back, even though the flight time is the same. This makes it look like they're early. Maybe that's what your builder is doing. Hope they finish fast!

I wish you the very best luck with your builder. I've heard so many horror stories from my friends that I'd be hard-pressed to have a house built for me unless the contract was very detailed.

We know the trades so we'd be way more picky than the average home buyer.

Still, if your builder thinks he can have your house finished by May, it's all good. The one bit of advice I've picked up from my friends is that they physically go out and check the progress of the building.

They've found that workers sometimes fudge to make the work go faster.

Here's hoping you'll have a bright, new house to come home to after your cruise.

Alex - I hope the Penguins get their stuff straightened out soon. I want them to win all the time! Unrealistic, I know, but it is what I want. :)

Jeff - Haha about the airlines. Kind of reminds me of Scotty from Star Trek. He always gave Capt Kirk a long timeframe and then would get it done earlier and look like a hero!

Maria - The good thing is that we aren't paying anything until it's finished and we close. The last time we had to pay installments as the work got finished. Whenever they wanted money, they would finish up to the next phase. What a pain. Glad we're not doing that this year, and it is motivation for them to finish sooner rather than later. They'll want their money!

That's amazing they can build your house that fast! I wouldn't count on it, though - seems something always happens to throw off the schedule, like a lot of rain for example. Still, even if they don't hit May, you should still be in your new house soon after.

Jennette - Ryan Homes seems really efficient, but I guess I'll find out in May whether they were correct or not!
